Would anyone mind telling me how much of
Ireland you see in Bobbie's Girl?
Is it important, or could the movie have
been set anywhere, it just happened to
be Ireland? I'm interested because I'm
from Ireland, and love the thought of
Bernadette here! I'd love to see the movie
but it hasn't been on here as far as I know.
Also, was it actually filmed here?
Thanks!!

It's made to seem like it was entirely filmed in Ireland but without watching the end credits, I can't be sure every last minute was filmed there. It mostly takes place on the east coast. Dublin is mentioned as well as Glendalough. If I remember correctly from the license plates, Counties Dublin and Wicklow (and maybe Wexford) are the most prevalent. I cant for the life of me remember the name of the town in which it takes place, only that it was a seaside town, I believe, in southeast Ireland.

The story, in my opinion, didn't have to take place in Ireland....could have been anywhere.

Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland is the only place shown as the filming location on the Showtime website.

I agree, except for a few beautiful shots of the beach and the pub atmosphere, the film really could have been anywhere. I never did understand how they wound up in Ireland.

I remembered the names because I went to Ireland last summer and learned about how the license plates tell you in which county the car is registered. So, when I was watching the movie, I could tell by the license plates generally where they were. They also mentioned Glendalough when BP had to go and pick up the boy at school. I was in Glendalough and was basically eaten up by these little bugs (midges.) So, that name definately stuck in my mind.

So, that is sort of why I remembered the county names. As for Bray, I had to look that one up online!

Thanks for that!
You must have been watching really closely
to spot the license plates!
One more thing, was Bernadette's character
Irish?
Hope you had a good time here in Ireland...
the round tower isn't much compared to the
bright lights of Broadway!
Thanks again

Bernadette's character, Bailey, is actually American and has worked in New York in theatre. there are scenes of a room in their home where there are playbills with her on the cover.

And don't believe the description that the showtime site gives you of the movie. They have it completely mixed up. It's Bobbie's nephew that comes to live with them and Bobbie's health crisis.
