Well I just took a really random trip to NYC with one of my friends. The city is about 9 hours away from here so it's quite a drive, but can be extremely fun!! We went and saw A RAISIN IN THE SUN and I MUST say that this is some AMAZING theatre!!!! Audra Mcdonald is amazing. Her level of acting is up there with Bernadette's IMHO. And we waited three hours in line for tickets and actually got front row seats which was extrememly cool! BUT....
as one Fandadette to a bunch of others must share this brief self-Bernadette/Gypsy story. Yesterday we walked through Shubert Alley and many of the signs are still up by the theatre...particularly the HUGE painted one on the brick...and my friend not really realizing how crazed I was was utterly shocked when after snapping a picture I melodramatically raised my hands and my voice towards the sky and SCREAMED at the TOP OF MY LUNGS.....WHY?!?!?!??!? LOL
People were looking at me like I was crazy!! My friend thought I was a little nuts too...but I must say that the city felt a little different knowing that Bernadette wasn't on the great white way at the time. Still...I thought you all might enjoy my little story!

I forgot...Sean Combs(P.Diddy) was really good...BUT he left after the first half (according to the announcer it was because of illness). This is the first time I've ever experienced that happening. But after some uncomfortable sighs and noises from the audience his understudy went on to do an AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING job!!

Great story. I can picture your "WHY!?!" exclamation as a scene in a movie.

Yes, I just got back from NYC...wanted to see Thoroughly Modern Millie before it closes next weekend. Anyway, it was really sad to see the Gypsy stuff coming down. Most of the bigger signs and marquis are still up but I think all of the "wall art" and prints in frames are all down. It was quite sad especially knowing that the Shubert will just sit empty all summer.

Oops...I've been corrected...the Shubert won't be empty all summer...though I guess in my very biased opinion, anything but Gypsy in that theatre at this point in time is the same as empty to me. Sorry...still a little bitter about the whole thing!

The first time I saw URINETOWN a few years ago, the brilliant Jeff McCarthy had to leave at intermission (He then stood right behind me during the second act and watched the show. He had lost his voice due to a cold, and his understudy, Don Richard, did the second act (with perfection). The second time I saw URINETOWN, Jennifer Cody (Wife to my love Hunter Foster) got sick (food poisoning i think) and left during intermission, and her understudy went on (as Little Becky Two Shoes). Needless to say, the third time I went, I expected someone to get ill at intermission. No one did... Haha!
