I think it would be cool to find out who the regular visitors are on this board who are aspiring or working actors, singers, and performers in general. It would be interesting to hear from all of your perspectives the things you like about Bernadette's performing, etc or to even give each other advice about things or get kind of a base of other fans of Bernadette who perform. I'll leave this at that and see where it goes.

I am an aspiring actor, and Bernadette was a huge influence on me as a performer. Most people describe Ms. Peters starting with "She's beautiful, funny, and sweet as can be..." type descriptions, and thought I do agree, that's not what makes me a fan of hers. What I love about Ms. Peters is that she puts herself right out there. Not many actors today do this. She walks out on stage and doesn't have any secrets from her audience! You always get a unique performance from her, even if it is the 400th performance of a show! Also, she transfers from stage to screen so naturally, and not many people do. She is one in a million! Any one who wants to be a serious actor should learn, and will learn from watching Bernadette Peters, whether it be in GYPSY, on videos of SUNDAY IN THE PARK or even in films like SILENT MOVIE, THE JERK, SLAVES OF NEW YORK, or SNOW DAYS.

I am not a professional actress. I work as a recptionist at a law firm here in Woodbridge, Virginia but I have done several readings at our church's entertainment evenings.

I love to sign although most oy my singing is done in the shower, or on Christmas Eve.

I love going to the dinner theater here in Woodbridge. Last month we saw 42ND STREET and what with all that dancing, the china nearly rattled right off the table.

Last summer when we were on a Princess Cruise, we saw great Hollywood Reveiw on board one evening. The singers and dancer s--actually they were the same people-- were a smash hit with the audience. I really enjoyed their tribute to New York!

So that's me!

I've played music my whole life, and I studied music through university. Today I do arranging and engineering for recording projects. I perform less these days, just when the right opportunity comes around. Nothing as glamorous as you might think, but some good work does come my way now and then!
Hard to say what inspires me about Bernadette. She has been a part of my musical world since I was a kid in the 1970's, when she was like a little oasis of talent in the otherwise bleak landscape of variety television. Not only does Bernadette champion some of the greatest music of our time, but she also brings with her performaces a real dedication, an attention to nuance, and an equal brilliance for both drama and comedy. Seriously, who does farce better than Bernadette?

I am a performer, and I have been acting since I was very young. What I most love about Bernadette is that she is DIFFERENT! She is not your typical "Hollywood star." She is very down to earth, and generous. But when she hits the stage, its like she IS her character. When I saw Gypsy I didn't think "That's Bernadette as Momma Rose," I thought, "That IS Momma Rose." She really connects with her characters. I first became a "fan" of hers from the Annie Get Your Gun CD. That seems weird even to me, because you don't typically become a fan of someone without even seeing them act, but with Bernadette it works, because when she sings, she gets so deep into the lyrics and feeling of the song that you get the emotion without having to see the performance.

That doesn't sound weird to me at all. It's the beauty of having cast recordings, and many become fans of performers without ever seeing them perform, and even after they're deceased (Mary Martin, for example). I would think it is understandable to anyone who has the good fortune of being a fan of musicals and a collector of cast recordings.

I am an actress and I will be moving to NY to move on with my career next year. Bernadette has been a huge inspiration to me. She is genuine and loves what she does. And I think that's important in this line of work. You can't let it go to your head. When she steps foot on that stage, she can steal the entire show - she becomes her character - it's not Bernadette, it's i.e. "Mama Rose." Her voice is phenominal, but i also like how she can change her voice to fit her character and her mood at that time in the show. She shines when she's on stage, and she has an effect on the audience. When you are watching Bernadette, it is real...really real. She can touch the audience in ways that no one else could, it's amazing - she brought me to tears. And I would like to have the same effect on my audience as she does. When you have touched some one else through your art and emotion and talent and love for acting, you have done a beautiful thing.

well, growing up i never wanted to turn my hobby into a career, but as i get older i think of how fun it would be. bernadette is as awesome as she is because you see her emotion, vunralbility, laughter and the fact she is having fun. once i nearly fell to the floor at a theatre i was performing at due to the wall of starts they have back stage, i was thinking OMG anyone who is anyone on stage was here. i'm awestruck everytime i see bernadette perform in concert or musicals. and secretly the best part about stage doors is see how she reacts to everyone waiting for her

I've always wanted to be some kind of performer onstage. I grew up with singing and dancing and figured "why not?"....So I started getting into Musical Theatre within the community and that led to doing some professional summer stock which then led to doing a 3rd company tour of Beauty and the Beast. Right now I'm still in high school doing acting jobs in commercials and some musical theatre in the tri state area. I'll be leaving the state though to go to NYC to live with my Aunt In January of '05 where I'll finish school and begin auditioning for THE GREAT WHITE WAY (hopefully beginning with CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG)

Bernadette's performances are riviting! She has such presence on the stage that its hard to notice everything around her.....for instance, did anyone notice the stairs coming in after Rose's Turn (the ones in front of the "stage door/exit"? I absouletly love the technical side to theatre and i love watching drops and set peices come on and off, but I didnt notice much of the set changes in GYPSY or Annie Get Your Gun, because Bernadette is so amazing to watch on stage.....its like everything around her may as well be mud..Plus another thing that makes her stand out (for me at least) is that she's very petite in size. Short powerhouses are what great performers are made of...Think of Judy Garland......stage and screen legend and history icon, and only 4'11''

I guess I would be considered a short Power house I'm only 5'2'' (barely) and I can act, dance, and sing my way through anyting! I want to become a performer like bernadette peters. I wan to be able to show everyone - the whole world that I am small, but I AM powerful! I think that Bernadette has definitely proven that.
