Hey guys, just thought I'd inform you about the performance of GYPSY yesterday. I hadn't bought tickets in advance and went to the box office around 12pm. I was able to get 6th row center seats for around $65 using the code. I left and arrived at the theater at about 1:30, and bought some merchandise. Now for those who have bought merchandise there, you know that there are foam pads and feather boas around the pins and numerous small items. I asked the salesperson what the did with the missilanous items after the show ended and she said they usually throw them away. I then proceeded to ask her if I could some how obtain them. She gave me her card and asked me to write down my name, number and adress and said that i should expect some things in the mail soon!!!! Anyways, the show started and the audience was very energetic and responsive. The overture got a big applause(as usual) and when bernadette came out i could actaully hear some "yea's" and "we love you's". Bernadette had a little throat trouble up to "some people", clearly her throat numerous times. Besides that the show was great as usual. During the intermission i was standing up looking around when I decided to go to the box office and just out of curiosity ask about the addentance. He said that it was 85% full, about 1,300 tickets sold!!! Not too bad! After that I was walking back to my seat when I noticed a yound boy running to the front row. I then realized it was Stephen Scrupulla (clarince and the clarinet) who had an understudy that day. he was sitting right in front of me with his mother. So i asked him for his autograph and picture with him. In terms of the show, the only complaint I personally had was Tammy's understudy. This girl was not very attractive (sorry to say) and I personally didn't like her acting although she had a nice voice. She presented herself during the strip routine as more of a vulgar stripper than a classy one(as Tammy does). She also extended her embrace to Bernadette with open arms (her interpretation of the story). This ending of course varies with every performance as Peter Lawernce had mentioned at Actor's Fund chats that i went to. The best performances of the night had to go to "Gotta get a gimmick" , they were more hilariuos then usual and ""Everythings coming up roses",(personally it became a realization that it was going to be my last time seeing BP sooooo pasionate in GYPSY)!!!The whole cast received a stading ovation which by the way was started by Stephen's mom!!! I was sooo happy cause I hate starting standing ovations by myself ! lol.Anyways, amazing and great show overall I am going to be sad to see it go!

I was once afraid of starting a standing ovation too, then at one of the performances of Gypsy I was so moved that I just bolted out of my seat. Fortunately I was in the front row so everyone behind me saw and stood up. We stood for at least a good 2 minutes (which is long for a standing ovation during the show...not at curtain call).

Sounds like you had a WONDERFUL time at the show, I'm wanting to know if there is any way I could get in on that merchandise deal?!?!

I'm so sad this show is closing. I had such high hopes. I've thought for a long time that Bernadette would make a FAN-TAB-U-LOUS Mama Rose!

I want to check one thing with you...you mentioned Tammy's understudy...was it Ginifer King or the other one? (There are two, the other's name is Julie, I looked it up)...I'd be SHOCKED (and a little concerned for your taste in talent) if you didn't like Ginifer because I saw her do it in March and thought she was great (and certainly beautiful). Just Curious and Thank you! VIVA LA GYPSY!

The understudy for Tammy was Julie Martell. Like I mentioned before, her voice was good but i didn't like her acting. The show of course was great as usual and in response to the merchandise deal...no! lol...just kidding. Actually I don't really know the outcome of the situation so we'll see...

oh and the attendance is really improving so I was soooo happy about that! 85% attendance is great considering the numbers from last week on playbill.com. I personally feel that the show could've lasted until September easily. The problem is that the producers of GYPSY probably were just tired of fighting for it.

Bernadette did and is making a fan-tab-u-lous Mama Rose. Tho it is closing sooner than fanadettes would like, leave us not forget the show has run for more than a year. I'm just sorry for the folks who didn't get to see the fan-tab-u-lous-ness of this performance and show.
(just adding a little perspective .)
