From: northern VA | posted: 4/21/2004 at 2:50:11 PM ET Oh.....well.....
I think they should be very, very, very proud of themselves. They pulled together and kept it going for almost three more months. That is quite an accomplishment. Gypsy has never had very long revivals-nothing on the scale of the recent Guys and Dolls,Cabaret,etc-so it's not anything on their part.
What a rollercoaster. I'm not getting my hopes up for a tour, regardless of any talk ('cause that's all that it is now). The majority of theaters that host touring companies have already booked their next season, and it's quite full, since Hairspray,Movin' Out,and Wonderful Town are touring (and many have booked all three, and have booked the older tours-Millie,etc). I don't know how a lot of them would be able to squeeze in another show...? Unless it's a limited tour and they only book a few cities.
And Bernadette has already booked some concert dates for next year (ahem...HOUSTON! I may be in Houston by next April-I'm hoping...I'm hoping I'm anywhere but here by next April. Here meaning my current residence, not this dear place on the Web!)

A tour, or a DVD (maybe...we can hope).
"I think they should be very, very, very proud of themselves."
I second that emotion.
For keeping it going and putting on a great, great show.

From: northern VA | posted: 4/21/2004 at 3:19:39 PM ET Not that I wouldn't be absolutely and deliriously ecstatic if a Gypsy tour with Mademoiselle should swing by my parts (the general Southeastern-Southwestern region of the United States). And it's not like I wouldn't rush out and buy orchestra seats for said show on the very day and minute the tickets went on sale.
I'm just sayin'. Perhaps I'm too cynical. I also don't want to get my hopes up.
(But um.... telepathy to the people in charge of this tour in abstract or whatever? Yeah. I don't mean to pressure you-I'm sure you're very busy and everything-but if Houston could be a stopping point on the so-far nonexistent tour, that would be just fab. Or San Antonio or Austin or New Orleans, even. Or Atlanta. Just stop by somewhere in the general area. That's all. No pressure. I realize that you don't even read this board. I'm just babbling. Yes,it may be a form of insanity. End telepathic-which should have an extra e-session.)

That's all I can say.....I'm so sad.
I just want to wish everyone involved the best of luck because you are all amazing. I'm sure we will see you in great great things soon.
I might have to move up my NYC moving date so I can see the show one last time...
You either got it, or you aint!

Registered: 6/7/2003 | posted: 4/21/2004 at 4:20:07 PM ET From someone on ATC about possible tour cities (don't know if this is inside info, maybe, probably not, could be "wishful thinking" or just stirring up trouble, so just relaying without comment); no one get crazy yet:
"Most likely San Francisco,Los Angeles,
Boston and Chicago.Possibly Atlanta."
I want to emphasize this is JUST CHATTER on another site, so take it for what it is worth-possibly nothing.

From: Brooklyn, NY | posted: 4/22/2004 at 12:02:15 AM ET How fabulous for this cast!! They won the same amount of Tony Awards as the original production starring Ethel Merman, they ran longer than the Angela Lansbury revival, and managed to be successful considering it is a new concept for the show, a controversial casting, and in one of the largest Broadway theatres. This is a hard show to run, ladies and gentlemen. Unfortunately the mass of people want to see crap like (I'm not going to name shows, but most of them are crap these days)! Hurrah for Bernadette Peters! She reinvented herself, and truly crossed the line to become a bonafide legend. I was passing by the theatre the other day and when I looked at her picture, I realized, she really is the last of her kind. Ethel Merman once said that she thought she was the last of her kind, and I think that was wrong. She was the first, Bernadette the last. I look forward to the next show BP does (in my dream world, she stars in the revival of MAME--another show that may be hard to run, however--) and I really hope this GYPSY is recorded for A & E or something. If they go on tour, they should definately have a return engagement to Broadway, and land in a smaller theatre where Bernadette can fill the room with her magic, and leave every single person with the feeling that they are never going to see anything like this again. I don't know if any of that made sense, but I am trying to say that I am not sad that this show is closing. I am proud of it for being what it is, and was. But I am going to cry like a baby that day! HAHA!
LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO MABEL!!
