Gypsy is one of the "Don't Miss" shows in the April 8-15 issue of Time Out New York (page 133). Bernadette is "superb" and the show "has grown even deeper and richer in the year since it opened." AND-Bernadette (as Rose,of course) is in the picture featured in the column.

Don't believe me? Ask the dishes:

EDIT: Wow! I just read the little annotation the magazine prints for each show-Gypsy has usually had a neutral annotation, but this one is different from the previous issues (I last checked the annotation several weeks ago). The show is "one of those rare productions that is better now than when it opened." Bernadette has "reinvented herself" and gives a performance of "stunning nuance and reach." John Dossett and Tammy Blanchard (previously characterized as "a find"-not there anymore for some reason), are given kind mentions, and this production is "a rare chance to see one of musical theater's greatest stars in one of the genre's all-time classics."

Whew!

I guess someone (there are several reviewers for the theater section) revisited the show and was mightily impressed, because the annotation has never been this long and glowing.

For contrast, this was the review printed when the show opened:

Thanks for finding this, Jenn.

The full text (uh oh, have I just violated some copyright law? Here's the attribution: "Time Out New York"):
"Sam Mendes's incisive revival of Gypsy is one of those rare productions that is better now than when it opened. Bernadette Peters endured endless carping last year when she took on the role of Mama Rose, made famous by Ethel Merman, in this powerhouse 1959 musical. But Peters has reinvented herself, and her role, in a performance of stunning nuance and reach; John Dossett and Tammy Blanchard provide her with admirable support. Gypsy offers a rare chance to see one of musical theater's greatest stars in one of the genre's all-time classics."

One more quote for anyone who asks about the show .

Where did you find the text? I looked for a link so the entire text could be shown, but I couldn't,so I didn't quote the entire annotation.

The text is in your link, (but I got it separately by going to the Time Out site before you included the link). Are we going in a neat little circle?

No, I'm watching "I Love Melvin" with Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor--now THAT's *silly*.

This is great, great news!!
Maybe other publications will "revisit" and the show will have a great, Shubert-packed summer.

Don't all we "Gypsy" fans have great taste??
