Well, I finally had time to pick up my pre-ordered copy yesterday. Last month the store manager hadn't heard of it and wasn't even going to stock it at first, but I talked him into displaying a few copies and they had already sold! I have to admit that I really didn't think too much of Sherry. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't terribly good either. I do have a high tolerance, and even affection, for mediocre 50s and 60s musicals, so I enjoyed it anyway in a mild sort of way. The problem for me was that it just wasn't very distinctive; it sounded like a million other shows of the era--no better, no worse. Definitely not a lost masterpiece or anything. I will say that Bernadette and Nathan Lane were perfectly cast, so much so that their songs could have been written with them specifically in mind. Not so with Carol Burnett or Tommy Tune, though I appreciated their work anyway. I had read mostly negative reviews of Burnett, so her performance actually exceeded my expectations. I know I'm biased, but in my opinion Bernadette was by far the best thing about the recording. She was in excellent voice and just great doing the sort of wistful, lovelorn ballads that she's the master of. I doubt that I'll listen to this CD very often--probably will just play Bernadette's parts and skip the rest most of the time. Oh, and I saw the Bravo special yesterday too. Lipton certainly takes pomposity to new heights(I guess we already knew that). Why am I dubious that he could read at the age of one? But it was fun to watch the performers recording; I always like seeing that process. Anyway, I'm really curious as to everyone else's opinion of the CD. Any thoughts?

To be fair, I've only really listened closely to Bernadette's numbers so far, but I'm enjoying those lots, and I think Nathan Lane is doing a terrific job. Odd that he was missing from the Bravo Special since he's the lead. Sometimes I think I hear a little of Carol Burnett's Shirley Temple in some of her vocals. Kind of reminds me of Martin Short in the Producers. Every once in a while a bit of Ed Grimley and some of those other SCTV, SNL charactres would creep into his Leo Bloom

Recently bought the Sherry CD, and I have to say I think it's rather delightful ..and did you know ith was the 4th best selling CD this past week?! Nathan Lane is so comical-and what timing! I love Bernadette's ballads, esp."Imagine That".She has the most incredible nuances &diction..Carole Burnett's performance was so-so.I actually was thinking that Christine Baransky would have been a better choice..but part of Carole's appeal is visual. Also,I thought from the written insert that the Bravo interviews were supposed to come up on the TV screen after the last track.Doesn't say anything about inserting it into your computer! Help! I am so disappointed..

Patty, I have some problems with the special features. For some reason when I play it on my DVD player that is hooked up to my television, the special features never kick in. But if I play it on the DVD player on my laptop, they open just fine.
