From: Alabama | posted: 2/3/2004 at 2:16:38 PM ET I was so horribly devastated this morning when I found out. I was crying and my roommate had to comfort me. I'm in a show right now where my only free days and nights are Saturdays. I live in Alabama and can't get to NYC in just a day! I've never been and this is just terrible! Let's all pray that they extend it just another week. If they do just another week then I can possibly by some miricle make it!

I mean i checked broadway.com and for the next three weeks the Sat. matinee is sold out. Don't give up hope yet! I still have it. You either got it or you dont. And also there is the chance that it will go to the West End and LOVE visisting beautiful London.

Registered: 4/1/2003 | posted: 2/3/2004 at 5:03:13 PM ET Let's all keep a positive thought and hope fervently for an extension. It could happen. First of all, I am going to gather up a group of friends, buy some tickets, and brave the NY cold! If business improves, and the advance sale looks better, it could run into the Spring or beyond. Stranger things have happened. This is BERNADETTE PETERS in GYPSY! It's got to run longer!

| posted: 2/3/2004 at 5:23:53 PM ET You guys keep saying how you've checked ticket availability and Saturdays are pretty much sold out...but keep in mind that Saturdays have never been a problem for this show. It was Mondays through Thursdays where the ticket sales were low. So try and convince people to go during the week.
If they close this month, she should take it to London. They know what's good theater there...
We know what good theatre is here also. Perceptions of the term "good" might differ, but most people who see Broadway shows are not as mediocor as those who live in London might like to believe. Theatre is a matter of personal taste. I might like Gypsy better than Hairspray; but that doesn't make Hairspray any less creative or deserving of credit.
That would be nice if Gypsy could have a decent run in the West End. I don't know if the Producers would want to risk it after having lost money with the Broadway revival? The same thing could happen there that happened here...it had a good run for about 7 months, and then sales began to drop. Though I think if they gave it more time things would get better.

From: northern VA | posted: 2/3/2004 at 7:00:45 PM ET West End audience are not necessarily savvier than Broadway audiences. I can think of quite a few good Broadway shows that did not go over well in London.

From: Arizona | posted: 2/3/2004 at 10:13:04 PM ET Christine is right, yesterday I checked seating for Mon-Wed performances during the last week of Feb and there are tons of good seats available. I would so go back as much as I could if I lived in the NYC area or if I hadn't gone 2 weeks ago. =(
