and the percussion on "Defying Gravity" was really too much. What do you guys think? I'm sure that the CD is awesome, I can't wait to get it.

I am, perhaps, a tad dismayed by the way the orchestrations have been tweaked and tinkered with for the recording. Granted, I love the songs themselves, but they have been slightly fiddled with.
Some of the notes that are normally held out as full notes have been shortened so they're almost staccato, and the ones that are normally staccato are being sung as half notes. The drums in DEFYING GRAVITY *DO* sound punchier, and the tempo has been decreased, and some of the octaves have been lowered (for the purposes of darker tone quality? Closer attention to pitch? I'm not sure.)
(In DEFYING GRAVITY, for instance -- the snippet I heard on the site, at least -- Idina is singing in a lowered octave. It's about two steps lower, in some points, as a matter of fact.) I mean, I know that, lately, in the show, she's been singing in a slightly lowered octave (for both DEFYING GRAVITY and THE WIZARD AND I,) but not this low, I don't think.
At any rate, I'm not entirely sure what was gained by these changes, but it seems to have only lowered the energy level of the music. I'm sure the CD as a whole is still wonderful (because it is just a wonderful show) but I really hate when songs are re-imagined for the recording.

Q: Any funny incidents or accidents with Kristin (Chenoweth)?
Norbert Leo Butz: I have this Errol Flynn moment where I swing in on this rope. One night in San Francisco, I let go of the rope and the rest of the actors started cracking up. I turned around and the rope had literally tied around Kristin's head and got caught on her crown and was pulling her off stage. It was like watching Barbie get hung.

The only songs I really like on there are:
What is This Feeling
Dancing Through Life
One Short Day
Wonderful (Joel Grey sounds great on this album)
I expected a lot more from Idina from what I've seen in person; and Kristin too for that matter. Neither one of them really belt like I know they can.
I like it for the most part because I remember seeing the show when I listen to it; but I don't love it.

I forgot to post that one last night.
LOL I just like the song "Wonderful" because Joel Grey sounds so adorable.

From: New Jersey | posted: 12/25/2003 at 9:57:45 PM ET I guess the only reason why I am so attached to this cd is because I am in Wicked-withdrawl (and I just saw the show for the second time on Tuesday!) But I'll admitt, the music (and chorus, for that matter) do overpower Kristin and Idina.
