I know this is not so much a theatre topic, but it was too off topic to put in the regular message forum.

With Broadway Barks coming, I was wondering how many of the people here have pets. What kind? Where did you get them? etc..

I myself have 2 dogs. One is a mix (shnauzer and Jack Russell Terrior). We saved her from being sent to a puppy mill (basically a fate worse than death for a dog). She was only a year old when we got her, and she is just a bundle of energy. She loves to sit on your lap and fall asleep; and when she's not tired she loves to play fetch and tug-of-war. We got our other dog (a full breed shnauzer) from the New Jersey shnauzer rescue center less than a year later. He had been living with an older couple who just couldn't take care of him anymore. He was only 2 or 3 years old when we got him.

We had to get another dog because my Father had to start taking more business trips due to his job, and we felt bad that Cookie (our first dog) would be left alone during the day. Luckily, the two dogs bonded and their opposite personalitis compliment each other very well. Cookie is spunky and Gio is mellow. They've sort of evened each other out.

I just love them so much. If I had the money, time, and space, I would adopt as many dogs as possible. That's why I think Broadway Barks is so great. I would never buy a dog...I would only adopt, and then donate money to the shelters.

Hehe! Great topic Christine! I have two dogs -- Chandler( a Yellow Lab/Husky Mix) and Shelby ( a Jack Russell/Boston Terrier Mix). I got Chandler from a neighbor who felt she went away too often on business to have dogs so she asked me if I wanted him. He was abused as a puppy so he did have some special needs. And Shelby my sister got from a local shealter. I also have a bird who loves listening to Linda Eder LOL

LOL and your bird clearly loves you. Whenever I'm on the phone with you and you say hold on and put the phone down to walk out of the room for whatever reason, your bird goes crazy! LOL

My friend has a bird that curses. It's funny for a little while, but then it just becomes annoying.

Interesting topic--

I don't especially like dogs, although a long-ago roommate had a Maltese who was quite dear and would sit on my lap just like a cat. I love cats-my last cat was a Himalyan. I no longer have a cat because I'm extremely allergic (read asthmatic attack) and I travel a bit.

I like birds-at least to look at (hence one of my email names), and have travelled a bit just to see them (the nesting home of the tufted puffin in the Gulf of Alaska nearly did me in--big-time sea-sick!).

I'm allergic to cats as well...even though I like them. And my brother is deathly allergic to dogs and cats, but schnauzers have hair and don't shed which is why we were able to get them.

I'm actually quite fasinated by birds. I could probably turn bird-watching into a hobby for myself. Although, birds seem to always fly towards me; it's scary. I like them at a distance. My favorite bird is the Penguin because it can only swim, not fly. LOL My ex-boyfriend went to Ireland and said there were a lot of Puffins there. I didn't know they lived in Alaska as well?

I have a mutt-a mix of lab, German shephard, and some other unknown breed of dog.
We got her from a farm or something-the local animal shelter wouldn't let us adopt because we don't have a fenced-in backyard...I guess they thought the dog wouldn't get enough exercise or something. Anyway, I love my dog to death and want another one to keep her company, but my parents are opposed to this idea.

I'd also like a cat, but unfortunately, I, too, (as well as my father)am allergic to them.

Hey dededarlin, I totally get what you mean. I took a Vet class when I was younger-- actually, I took a few but in this particular one we had every kind of animal you could think of right there with us in the room. We had rats and you're right...they're very intellegent..atleast a lot more intellegent than people give them credit for. We also had a few pot belly pigs there too which are incredibly smart animals! You should hear the stuff we taught them to do LOL

Okay, I have two cats, Molly and Julie. Now you can all figure out where in the heck I got my logon name. LOL They are pretty much the loves of my life and I wouldn't trade them for anything. I even took them on a cross country car trip and they did really well. They ride in a car very well and don't have to be in carriers. Molly sits on the arm rest between the two front seats and often leans her head against my arm or she sits on my shoulders between my head and the head rest. Julie sleeps inside of her "car seat" (a one level cat condo) or she sits in the back seat. Every once in a while Molly will sit on top of Julie but hey kids in cars, what are you going to do? Hee Hee. It's great to have pictures of your cats at Mt. Rushmore.

And to connect this to Bernadette: Every time I turn on Bernadette's Concert DVD, Julie sits right in front of the TV and is enthralled.

One dog... Adopted her at the pound... It was sad because she was sick at the time and she had previously been bought but the people were to lazy to give her medicine for 12 more days so they gave her back... Anyways... The guy at the pound said 2 more days and they would've put her to sleep... So she's very special and I'm glad I have her... Funny topic though... Not theatre related at all! lol

Here is my dog story.

I was passing by a pet store and this cute dog was sitting in the window all alone. I went in an asked about her, and the owner told me that she was 7 months old and that if someone didn't buy her by the end of the week that he was going to give her to the some place (can't remember what he said). I went home and tried not to think about her.

2 days later I am at work and the I get a phone call from my Mother. She told me how her and my aunt were out shopping and she saw this dog and well she bought it. When I got home, it turned out to be the same dog that I saw in the window.

Yippe. We have had Missy now for over 2 years now.

I have two cats, Maine Coon cats, which are big lovable long-haired cats. Their names are Rory and Bailey and yes, they are my children as well. Oh by the way, I am very allergic to cats (asthma!) but, I get cat allergy shots. The shots work great for all of you allergic people out there who really want a cat.

I have one dog. A little terrier mix I adopted as a pup from the local county animal shelter, an awful place with concrete floors, no blankets or toys for the animals, and multiple dogs to a cage. That place has such a terrible reputation that rescue groups from other cities come to get animals out of there. Anyway my little one is almost four now, very sweet and quite active with a lots of personality.
