From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 6/6/2008 at 8:20:04 AM ET I'm going to see our lovely Ruthie in "Marguerite" in a couple of weeks. It's another re-working of La Dame aux Camélias but set in war-time Paris this time. This London production is the world premiere and the music (Michel Legrand)seems quite ravishing. Can't wait! marguerite video here

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 8/8/2008 at 10:26:52 AM ET Saw this last week, one of the best theatrical experiences I've had in recent years, it's a fabulously staged production. The music, by Michel Legrand, is quite difficult and taxing (I would think) for the two leads, but is very beautiful. Ruthie Henshall, amazingly good in the title role, has a very "high" sing throughout.... actually, it is quite operatic in many ways, Duets, Trios, Quartets etc. Also the orchestration is very clever and quite fascinating, with the use of operatic "leitmotif " for the leading characters.
The story cuts no corners in exposing the hypocracy of certain members of the French elite who enjoyed their customary good life-style by collaborating with the Nazis in Paris. It's a very "grown-up" musical. And how refreshing to see something so original, a show that's not just set around someone's 'greatest hits' or a 'Disney' film with some added music. The night I was there was one of the hottest this summer and there was not one spare seat in the theatre. The show has had super reviews from both the tabloid and the quality press, how rare is that?
If you are visiting London this summer, this world premiere West End show is a must.

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 8/14/2008 at 5:40:13 PM ET Would love to know what you think of it. I think the CD, with the various sound effects & radio broadcasts, gives a really good idea of what the show's like. "Face I See" is obviously the big number for Marguerite. The "Letter" scene was very moving to see..

From: tonawanda,n.y. | posted: 10/7/2008 at 11:26:36 AM ET After hearing just a short excerpt on line, I could tell this was going to be a wonderful musical experience! I ordered it immediately from "First Night" productions on line, and I received it in six days! It was only $14.99 and arrived in beautiful condition. I love the story and music and have played it almost continuously. I can hardly wait for it to come to Broadway! What? Most likely in 3 or 4 years! Look how long it took "Billy Elliott" to arrive! Has anyone seen it yet? I am thinking of seeing it in NYC in the spring. The interview and dancing on line are incredible! I loved the movie..seems so long since it played here...4-5 years? At last ,some wonderful original musicals are being born!
To the loveliest lady of song!
You will keep on giving me joy forever...
