I have a chance to get tickets to the Drama Desk Awards, but I was wondering if that was really the best way to go. I've been told that you can volunteer at the awards (I'm a college student) and I thought that might be a cool way to see a lot of behind the scenes type stuff and meet some of the performers, but I'm not sure...So what I was wondering is if anyone here has ever volunteered there? What was it like? Do you get to chat with any of the performers or anything like that? How do you sign up to volunteer? Or is it just better, since I have the option of getting the tickets that include the parties and stuff, to just go that route? Thank you!

You used to be able to volunteer via Hit Show Club.com but they didn't send out a call for volunteers last year and haven't so far this year (as far as I know since I haven't seen it). It's fun. I did it three times. You have to dress up and commit to many hours of actual work, but since it's so much fun it doesn't seem like work. They need help with everything from stuffing programs to taking tickets to seat filling. It's a long fun-filled evening. You are not allowed to have anything signed or take pictures, but it's fun interaction with the stars. My favorite moments were handing Hugh Jackman his program and having him smile at me and tell me thank you; helping Boy George and his entourage get seated late; helping Donna Murphy return to her seat after winning; helping John Lithgow find the men's room. Good luck! It's worth it!
