Ok, well I just heard Linda's new album, " Broadway, My Way"( most of it anyways,I'll have to listen to the rest when I get home from work later tonight). She recorded SOME PEOPLE for it....well, ok I love Linda...but I don't particularly like her version of the song. She just didn't seem to put enough power--vocally and emotionally into the song. The album as a whole is great tho!! I would totally reccomended everyone run out and get a copy when its released next Tuesday( Feb. 18th). She also sings I'LL BE SEEING YOU...a song Bernadette has performed in her concerts many times. Both versions are beautiful! I like it a little less "orchestrated" though. She also recorded EDELWEISS, which Bernadette sang at her Radio City concert...and now I'm wishing more than ever that Bernadette would record that!

I just got an email from Atlantic Records and they have all the songs on Linda's album available to listen to online. I'd love to hear what other people think of her new album...especially SOME PEOPLE!

I just listened to it and I DEFINITELY prefer Bernadette's version on her Sondheim CD and of course can't wait to see what she does with it. Eder sounded like she should have been in some smokey jazz café.

I definitely agree that Linda did not put enough power into "Some People." I also didn't care for the way that song was orchestrated on her album.
After listening to the songs, my favorites are:
On the Street Where You Live
I'll Be Seeing You
Don't Rain On My Parade
The Impossible Dream
Edelweiss
Man of La Mancha

*I didn't really like the orchestration for Edelweiss, but I thought she sang it so beautifully.

I also agree that Linda did not put enough power and emotion into "Some People." Her version just didn't do it for me. The point in the song where she sings "they can stay and ROT" really stunned me...I nearly jumped out of my skin(LOL). I guess I just wasn't expecting her to be so forceful and loud with the word ROT, considering her lack of power and emotion with the song to begin with.
But don't get me wrong, I think she has a very beautiful voice...I especially liked "I'll Be Seeing You" and "The Impossible Dream."

i just listened to linda eder's versions of some people and i'll be seeing you. i understand what you mean about the "power" not being strong enough, but i do appreciate what she did with the songs. she def made some people her own, as does bernadette, by not doing what everyone else does and copy ethal merman's way of singing it. i am a fan of both linda and bernadette and i have to give linda props for making each song her own.

I saw her on CNN Headline news and thought it was really bad on CNN's part that they cut her off. She sings quite well, but it just doesn't have the same emotion impact B has when she sings.

Ok, before I get flamed by anybody...just let me state that I am a fan of both Bernadette AND Linda..I think they are both very talented in their own right! However,Linda does lack in stage presence and connection with her songs and how to interpret them sometimes...

I never really noticed this until about 2 years ago when I saw Bernadette in concert one night and then Linda the next....what a difference in presentation! Bernadette, of course, is a very experienced performer and has been in the business a LOT longer than Linda so *maybe* that's why....
I'm hoping in time Linda will learn how to connect better.

Bernadette is also a triple threat...she sings, she dances, she acts--And all very well I might add!! Where as, I've only seen Linda sing very( very, very) well. I've actually never even seen her attempt to dance.I'm very interested to see how Camille Claudel ( her next Broadway show) will turn out!

I got Linda's CD the other day, and I really like it. I do have to agree with the "Some People" comments, though. I like the way Bernadette sings it better.

And while I do love both Linda and Bernadette, I have to agree with you, Bwaybaby, that Linda (though I've never seen her in concert live, just on TV) seems to lack Bernadette's stage presence and-I don't know how to explain it, but the way Bernadette draws you in. Linda has an absolutely gorgeous voice, and while Bernadette has a wonderful voice also, it's the *way* she sings (as in, her interpretation, I guess-for lack of a better word)rather than the quality of her voice that gets me. And the opposite for Ms. Eder-it's quality of her voice that blows me away, rather than her presentation, for the most part.

Did that make sense? And I hope I didn't insult anyone-these two are both extremely talented women!

i'm glad to hear that you like linda's new cd. i'm a broke college student, but i'm hoping to get it very soon. i too love both, but i know what you mean about the stage presence that bernadette has and the way she personalizes everything and her delivery and her interpretation. i do think, though that linda is getting more emotionally open on stage. i saw her in concert not long ago and i had good enough seats to see every facial expression and i have to say she moved me to tears a couple times. i think she's not as "there" as bernadette for the most part, but i was glad to see her feeling emotional connection with the words she was singing b/c she was almost in tears herself.

I actually *just* saw Linda earlier this week at Carnegie Hall ( I know a few other board members were there as well). She's gotten a little better with how she presents her songs and all. She's been working with an acting coach. However, I thought she still lacked a little...I mean she was reading lyrics for some of her newer songs... sorta hidden( but not really). She said it was only her second time doing this set but really, if you're playing Carnegie Hall...you should know your stuff whether its your first or 100th time performing it. It just sort of detracted from some of the songs. The songs she's sung many times before were great!!! But she seemed to get very nervous( as she even admitted she was) and loose some confidence in the songs she hasn't been singing for a very long time. She could also move around on stage more rather then just standing in one spot for two hours. On a whole though-- I thought the concert was awesome!! She does have a great sense of humor and it was wonderful hearing her sing songs that she's most known for singing( like Vienna and Bring on the Men) and it was great hearing her sing some new stuff!

I decided to actually buy this CD and I think I have a new favorite. Sure, "Some People" might be different from the Bernadette way but I love the Man of La Mancha tracks. The orchestrations are quite enjoyable... I'd have to recommend this CD to anyone who wants a great collection of theatre tunes.

I have listened to both Linda and Bernadette and to be honest there is no comparison. Linda has a problem with her diction and when she gets into the high ranges i can understand what she is saying. Also she is very cold when she speaks to the audience. I love Linda please don't get be wrong but Bernadette is "Bernadette". I once heard Rosemary Clooney say on a Larry King Special that Bernadette Peters is one of the only vocalists who can sing and cry at the same time. Good luck Monday night Bernadette. PS i am listening to BP's "Some People" right now.
