This Friday evening is this year's Kennedy Center Honors. CBS 9pm.

Honories include:
Actor James Earl Jones, conductor James Levine, dancer/actress Chita Rivera (woo-hoo, some Broadway people are sure to be there), singer/songwriter Paul Simon and actress Elizabeth Taylor.

Here's a link for the complete details:

The details will tell you who else will be there.

I was just wondering what everyone else thought of this year's Kennedy Center Honors?

I thought the musical numbers were great; though I didn't see the point in having a scene from "Company" performed for Elizabeth Taylor's piece.

All of the performances that were in honor of Chita Rivera were excellent!
I really hope that Bernadette is honored for her work on Broadway (as well as film, television, and music/recording) someday. I'm sure she will be!

I thought it was great!! It was wonderful seeing Hal Prince honor her! I thought Alice Ripley was great too! Steve Martin was very very funny when he spoke for Paul Simon! I have a feeling Bernadette might be honored soon...like next year.

It's a possibility......especially now that she'll be in a (hopefully) well-known film with the entire Douglas family, not to mention starring as Rose in one of America's greatest musicals!

She's earned her place already...these things will just put her over the edge! She's overdue for this award.

Hmm. Do you really think Bernadette would be honored in the NEAR future? The Kennedy Center Honors seem to be awarded when someone is at the end of their career. Even though BP has had such a long career she still has so much of her career left. It would be interesting to see what the Kennedy Center considers their requirements to be considered. Needless to say, though, I'm sure she will eventually be honored.

I honestly couldn't think of a better year to honor her than next year. She'll already be surrounded by hype. And I think its long overdue. As far as how they chose the honorees....members of the Kennedy Center's national artists committee, as well as past Honorees, make recommendations of possible Honorees each year.
I don't know about you guys but I definitely wouldn't say that Julie Andrews or Stephen Sondheim were at the end of their careers when they were honored...
However, I do think age plays a factor( what's the use of honoring a 30-something year old when they still have so much ahead of them). I think its more a matter of timing and the Honorees accomplishments( obviouosly) that make up most of their decision. They're also faced with the dilema of chosing a balance of honorees known for TV, movies, music or Theatre( they usually have atleast one from each). I'd love to see Celeste Holm, Joel Grey,Mary Tyler Moore and Liza Minnelli get honored soon too! There are so many deserving and talented people to choose from though so it must be difficult!

Yeah, that's true about Andrews and Sondheim but they were at least in their 60s when they were honored because wasn't it just a few years ago or am I not remembering correctly. I still think BP is a little young or that she will be considered to be too young by those making the decision. Though I agree next year would be such a culmination for her. I guess we will have to wait and see. :- )

Julie Andrews was honored last year and Stephen Sondheim in '93. Keep in mind Bernadette was the youngest inductee into the Theatre Hall Of Fame

I would love to see Bernadette & Barbra Streisand honored in the same year!
It could happen since Bernadette is known more for theatre & Barbra is known more for films and popular musical recordings.
It will probably never happen (having them together), but I would love it!
