Do anyone know the British stage actress Millicent Martin?. I saw her perform side by side by Sondheim from 1976 and she was magnificent. She performed songs like: I'm Still Here, I Never Do Anything Twice, You Could Drive a Person Crazy, Getting Married Today, Everybody Says Don't. She was also the lead in the Broadway show "Boy Friend" which introduced a 19-year-old Julie Andrews to the public. So, recognize her yet?

And she played Daphne's mother on Frasier. Yes, I'm quite familiar with her.

Yes, she's great on both of those CDs. Don't forget her wonderfully funny and charming work on "Hey, Mr Producer."
One of my favorite songs on "Side By Side By Sondheim" is "The Boy From..." Martin's version is good, but I prefer Linda Lavin's original from "The Mad Show."

While I thought she was cute on Hey, Mr. Producer, I was not at all impressed with her voice. I figured she was there more for nostalgia sake and that her voice was pretty much gone - gone to 3 packs a day, I assumed. She was fairly painful to listen to and I was glad when Julia Mackenzie sang louder to drown out Millicent's voice.

Yeah its amazing how smoking can damage your voice. I actually saw Millicent perform "I'm Still Here" a few years ago and she was stunning. As to her vocal abilities, well, they're not what they used to be, she tend to over use the vibrator and her shaking is almost unbearable, but she still has it though. Many of the great ladies of Broadway seems to have lost a great deal of their vocal range, for example Angela Lansbury once had a stunning voice...today its practically gone.
