Does anyone know who is taking over after Shirley Jones and Patrick Cassidy leave on Aug 1st? I would like to see the show but want to know if I should rush to see it before they leave or if I will be fine seeing it sometime next month.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Mandy - I have seen 42nd street 4 times, even w/ the Tony winning cast 2 1/2 years ago. It's a great show no matter who's in it because the tap dancing is so much fun. It's ending in January I believe. I haven't heard who's next after Shirley and Patrick.

Sry about that other post. I hit the button on accident! About 42nd Street I saw it at the end of June, and no offense to Shirley Jones, but if you could wait to see it until after she's gone, then you should. She wasn't very good at all. I didn't get to see Patrick Cassidy but I heard that he's a lot better than her. I can't believe that the company would let that poor woman embarass herself like that!

That's sad - maybe it was just an off night. I saw them both on "On Stage" on NY1 yesterday. She hasn't been in a live stage performance since 1968. Plus the "Dorothy Brock" character isn't supposed to be that great - fading diva and all.

I know that the character isn't supposed to be very good, but on the soundtrack Christine Ebersole sounded a lot better than Shirley Jones, and according to this group of women in the bathroom during intermission, it wasn't just that night that she was bad, (they had seen it before with her in it). I really do just think it's age though because in the Music Man she sang really good. Her acting in 42nd Street was good as well. It was just her singing!

I would say, regardless of her singing (even if it is "bad") GO SEE IT. FFS is my second favorite musical of all time. You can't go wrong with it. It is a beautful story! A true underdog story at that. I love the dancing and the cast is amazing. Nadine Isenegger IS Peggy Sawyer! She carries the entire show on her shoulders and does it with grace, style, and FUN!!!!

Christine Ebersole was the shiz in 42nd street when i saw it like 2 years ago. but as someone said before, i don't think 42nd street is meant for its fantastic singing rather its amazing fantabulous tap dancing. but that's just my opinion...

damn, she's cool.

I saw it the first time with Beth Leval and she wasn't that great. But she's really not FAMOUS so i didnt expect much, the second time I saw it beth was supposed to play her Brock again, but Dorothy Stanley was in for her.....and she was amazing, I wrote her fan letter after fan letter....She was so incredible, she actually MADE ME BELIEVE I WAS THERE!!!!!

Just wondering if anyone else got to see Shirley & Patrick. I saw them twice in 42nd Street and, though I suppose I'm in the minority, I thought Shirley was absolutely WONDERFUL. As much as I love Christine Ebersole (and her voice was terrific), I didn't see anything wrong with Shirley's either time I saw it. Her voice never cracked, and she hit ridiculously high notes with such aplomb that it made me JEALOUS, lol! I also thought Shirley looked a little more "into" the part than I had ever seen Christine.

Patrick is, by far, the best Julian Marsh since Jerry Orbach. His acting and his singing are just impeccable, not to mention those "matinee-idol" good looks of his! (And could he look any more like his father?! Good grief... it was just plain EERIE when he came out on stage. I wanted to wave and be like, "Hello ghost of Jack Cassidy.")

As far as Peggy's go, I saw Nadine's understudy - Vanessa... something, both times. I haven't seen Nadine, but when comparing Vanessa to Kate Levering: I don't think her dancing was as remarkable as Kate's (she OWNED that stage, so graceful), but her acting and singing was a far sight better.

Anyone else there have any comments?

Ashley
