Maybe these sites will be helpful. Also there's a large coffee style book called "Sondheim" by Martin Gottfried. You can find used copies on Amazon and sometimes at Barnes & Noble. Bernadette is on the cover of it and its full of pictures and descriptions of each of his works. I love Company too. Isn't it brilliant? Sondheim's work just has so many layers. Every time you revisit one his works, you'll find something new.

From: northern VA | posted: 10/21/2005 at 12:46:55 PM ET Sondheim & Co by Caig Zadan is also a fantastic resource, since the material comes directly from those involved with the shows (get the 1994 edition).
The Secrest biography is controversial, but may also have what you're looking for.
If you're particularly ambitious, you can also try Sondheim on Music, which is a book-length transcript of conversations between Sondheim and Mark Eden Horowitz, the Senior Music Specialist at the Library of Congress. Some sections can be difficult and daunting for those who do not have a solid knowledge of music theory and composition (which means me!). However, in between some bewildering sections, I learned a lot about Sondheim's creative process and the creation of his works. I think it's marvelous that this book was published.
There's also
How Sondheim Found His Sound, which is an August 2005 publication. It's probably not what you're looking for, but if you're interested in Sondheim, you might find it worthwhile.
Look for Ethan Mordden's One More Kiss: The Broadway Musical in the 1970s for more information on the original cast of Company.
If I think of any more, I'll post. I know these might not be easy to find in the UK, but try your library or Amazon for used copies, at least. You're going to find more information in print than you will on the Internet for this.

Unfortunately, I just checked, and it's only available at this time on a DVD in North American format, so that may not be accessible to you.
