I just wanted to post that my thoughts are with everyone in London today and in the coming days of recovery. I do hope our own London poster Jenny is safe. And if there are any other London lurkers out there or people just visiting London, I hope you are all safe. Obviously many of us in New York and around the U.S. can relate to the feelings of Londoners today.

Yea, I've been watching the news pretty obsessively since early this morning. In my excercise class today, one of the "girls" reported that her daughter and friend, who were just about to get onto the London underground to catch a train for the continent, were stopped and not caught up in the bombings, and are safely back at their hostel.

The friend I was in London with in January called earlier today and we just babbled away--safety is certainly relative. I think when I go to Scotland in 5 weeks and Egypt/Jordan in January I will need to put this out of my mind.

Egypt and Jordan?

They're probably perfectly safe, but still...

My friend Mim was on her way into London on a local commuter train and headed to the tube where it happened when her daughter called her on the cell and told her of the problem. She was able to get off and turn back around. I don't know about theatre, but the Royal Opera has cancelled its performance tonight - I imagine everything will be dark - apparently there is no public transportation for the time being.

New Yorkers are stoic as usual - we're always on orange alert, but the cops do seem a bit more visible than usual.

(Jean - you just had to throw in mention of your upcoming trips to make me jealous)
