Apparently she had a big fight in her dressing room with Ron Field.

Registered: 6/7/2003 | posted: 11/15/2006 at 7:56:41 PM ET I don't have time to post it all right now, but this is what McKechnie wrote about Bernadette:
(Time Steps, page 92)
"During one of our rehearsals, Bernadete Peters had an intense discussion with Ron about the staging of one of her numbers, "I can Cook, Too." Bernadette was marvellous in the role of the pushy cab driver, Hildy. Her agitated discourse with Ron continued in the dressing room next to mine. Listening to them, I realized that Ron wasn't communicating with the cast, a special problem for me since I needed his help on my number. "

Haven't we all?
You mean, an intense discussion and agitated discourse?

Registered: 6/7/2003 | posted: 11/16/2006 at 6:31:35 AM ET Here's a bit more from the book:
"As he left her dressing room and went into the hall, I stuck my head out the door and called after him, saying, "Ron, I know you're gonna fix my number, right?" ... [he didn't]
There were money problems as well, and shortly after the opening, Ron called a meeting in the basement of the theater with the cast, musicians, and stagehands. We were all asked to take a pay cut to keep the show going for a few more weeks. We all agreed, which was unheard of, since stagehands and musicians must always get paid."
That last sentence-I can't get her (McKechnie, that is) mood-playful, sarcastic, mean?
Why do I have this idea in my head that Bernadette would not fight publically with someone? Since I know nothing, it must just be my image of her, although I like the idea of her standing up for herself...
off now back much later...

| posted: 11/16/2006 at 10:21:58 AM ET I've always viewed Bernadette as the type of person who avoids confrontation/fights if at all possible. She would exhaust all other routes first but if that didn't work and she felt strongly about something than I have a feeling all that Italian blood coursing through her veins and that red hair would take affect and she would take no prisoners.
And yes I know her hair doesn't grow out of her head red. Bottom Line: She'll defend herself or something she believes in to the end and will do it successfully.
Of course I have nothing to base my opinion on - just my feeling of her from her various interviews, etc.
"I'm one star away from Dolly Parton ... and Raymond Massey is between us. I hope we don't suffocate him." Bernadette Peters receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, April 24, 1987

From: northern VA | posted: 11/16/2006 at 1:16:18 PM ET The New York Times had a great article right before AGYG opened on Broadway. Richard Jay Alexander was quoted:
"She doesn't challenge people until they have a certain kind of relationship...I've seen outbursts, not the kind you get from Al Pacino, but she makes it clear if there's something she's unhappy with."
If anyone wants to read the whole thing, PM me.

Will you give us the date of the interview--I can't access anything right now.

She fidgets. "I hate talking about people," she says. "I feel I'm invading their privacy."
