Has anyone been to the opening night of a show? I'm curious as to what happens before and after the performance. For example, is there any program, etc. prior to the start of the show? Are acknowledgements and remarks made at the conclusion?

I went to Gypsy's opening night and Mayor Bloomberg gave an award and made a speech, and the curtain call was longer than usual (probably for the press to take photos).
But when I recently attended Wicked's opening night, there was really nothing special...other than the great performance that was given.

He made that date "Curtain Up On Gypsy" day...or something like that. It was because "Gypsy" has been such an iconic Broadway show over the past decades.
