You'd be a stalker if you were like, I dunno, hanging around her house and calling her at home, and doing all sorts of weird things.... stalking is usually pretty sneaky, but going an buying a ticket to see the show isn't really stalking... now I could see makybe if you were sneeking into her dressing room or something......

From: New York City | posted: 11/6/2003 at 11:45:20 AM ET I think my thing with GYPSY (as opposed to, say, WICKED,) is that I have the CD. I think I nearly destroyed the CD by listening to it so much -- especially since I listened to it everyday on the subway, during my commute. Two weeks straight of any musical and, I think, you're just going to want to listen to something else.
WICKED isn't out on CD yet and I've been obsessed with the lyrics. And I only know a few of the words. I think if it was out on CD, I might be less apt to see it continuously (I'm sure I will go at least a half dozen more times before the end of the year.) Similarly, with MAMMA MIA, the Broadway cast never recorded an album. The only available album is the London cast album, which I have, but am not a big fan of.
I think owning the cast album (after having seen it a few times) really helps with the willpower to not see the musical again. Or else it dulls the senses, or allows you to grow tired of hearing the music. I have to wonder what people did before all soundtracks were recorded. Imagine going to see the original GYPSY, with Ethel Merman, and not being able to listen to the music like we can now. On CD players, car stereos, anywhere, basically. UGH. What would I do? I'd lose my mind!

Here's the link to that thread on the other message board in case anyone wants to read it. I find it ammusing the amounts of times people have seen things; but even I've seen Gypsy 9 times, and Mondo Drama 6 times...and I think that's a lot.

From: Canada | posted: 11/6/2003 at 1:11:31 PM ET Just as a matter of interest, since I don't know, just how much do tickets to Gypsy cost? I don't remember how much the tickets were when I went to Broadway, though we got student/group discounts and sat in the very back, so I don't think they were too much...) But I know the John Labatt Centre in London Ontario is doing a "Broadway Series" showing Cats and Saturday Night Fever and stuff, and student tickets to that are $50 a piece, and that's not even real Broadway!!

From: New York City | posted: 11/6/2003 at 2:00:06 PM ET At regular price, orchestra seats and mezzanine seats (which are the second level of seats) are $100.
Rear mezz and balcony (third level) range anywhere from $60 - $40, and if you can get to the TKTS booth in time, you can get good seats for half price. (Usually, it's 50% of the $100 seats, or %40 of the $100 seats.)
OR, if you're a student, you can get balcony seats for $25 (get there early in the morning, around 9:30am or so, and I think you can get 2 tickets with one student ID, if the box office guys are nice and there aren't a lot of people in line.)
OR you can do standing room, which is $20 and you stand the whole time behind the last row of the orchestra. But standing room only happens when the show sells out. And while GYPSY has been near-capacity, I don't think it's been completely sold out in awhile.
So your best bet might be the TKTS booth, if you're willing to chance it and wait till the day of the performance. I don't think there are any other discounts running for this one right now.
