Hey ~ has anyone seen Impromptu? I just watched it last night and I thought it was great. Anybody have any thoughts about it?

I loved it! Bernadette was so great in it!! I wish I could see it again, but my local Blockbuster seems to have gotten rid of it? I think I'll have to get it for Christmas...

It's a great cast all around-Emma Thompson is particularly delightful. As wonderful as she is a dramatic actress,she has a wicked comedic sense.
And it looks like she's getting back into movies (she's in one coming out in the fall,and she's going to be in the next Harry Potter movie). Her daughter will be three in December,I believe-this was a much longer-for child,so it wasn't surprising that she took such a long time off,and I suspect much of her work from now on will be UK-based.

I really enjoyed the story. I thought Hugh Grant and Judy Davis were amazing.
What role is Emma Thompson going to be playing in the next Harry Potter movie? I love those movies.

Impromptu is a great favorite of mine. I think it's one of the best films Bernadette's done. I really think it could have been a huge art-house hit if they had just promoted it properly instead of letting it die on the vine.

I just saw a news release that said Emma Thompson will play Sybill Trelawny, professor of divination.

Yeah! Emma as Trelawney? That's awesome! I wish they would find a fun character for Bernadette to play in an HP movie. I can't think of one in the last five books though. Anyone got any ideas of who she could play?'

I think Bernadette would be great in those movies. But I remember reading that the author J.K. Rowling didn't want any American actors in the films.

It's funny that someone mentions Bernadette playing a part in the Harry Potter movies, because the whole time I'm reading the 5th book, I'm picturing Bernadette as Professor Umbridge.
(For those of you who don't know, Professor Umbridge was ta foil of Harry's in the 5th novel.)
I think I thought of Bernadette because I kept picturing her performance as the witch from ITW, and as Lily St. Regis in ANNIE, and aspects of her as Rose in GYPSY. As sweet and cherubish as Bernadette's characters may tend to be at times, I think this quality really works for her when she plays a villianous character. A very deceptively sweet, manipulative kind of person -- which is exactly what Professor Umbridge is.
But like Megan said, Joan Rowling doesn't want any American actors in the HP movies. (Or she would prefer there aren't any, shall I say.) And actually, I kind of like that. I think the casting of all UK, Scottish and Irish actors really gives the movie the right flavor. I think that maybe part of the magic would be ruined the second they cast an American known celebrity in a main role.

Actually, I always pictured her more as Rita Skeeter from Book 4... I think she would do a wonderful job with that role.
Did the illustration of Professor Umbridge remind anyone else of Rose Marie (from the Dick Van Dyke show)? It looked alot like she does now... especially with that bow...

Yeah, Rita Skeeter is more like it...basically because I can't stand Umbridge! Most of the time I kinda like the villains, but not in her case. I guess that putting American actors in those films would kinda ruin it, I never thought of it before.

I agree, I could definately see her as Rita Skeeter. Especially because Joanne Rowling described her as a petite character who had blonde curly hair (or was it black, can't remember lol)

I just thought I would mention that Emma Thompson, as well as Thomas Sangster (I believe that's his name...the little boy who was in Bobbie's Girl) are starring in the new movie called "Love Actually" with Hugh Grant.
I'm so glad that he is going to be in a wide-release movie in America. That little boy is so talented.
And look at that! Three of Bernadette's co-stars in one movie. lol
I saw the entire preview (even though there are some short commercials on tv) when I went to see "Intolerable Cruelty". Now there's a movie I would not reccomend. lol

Its odd that I've heard many people in a few different forums say that they thought that little boy was a good actor but I actually found him very wooden.
I understand how this could have been an advantage when he was cold and unfeeling after his parents passed on however he failed to become a warmer more amiable character which the plot required.
A very bland child.

Rita Skeeter is that evil newspaper reporter from the Daily Prophet who was saying all of the bad things about Harry.
