I have to say if Patty ever wants to move on from being Bernadette's assistant I think she would have a very lucrative career running auctions and selling. She is the main worker behind all the auctions that have anything to do with Bernadette (Broadway Barks and Gypsy of the Year and Easter Bonnett competitions when Bernadette is in a show) and now the Broadway Flea Market. You will find that shows Bernadette is a part of often win the top prize for most money raised. Patty works her butt off.

From: New York City | posted: 9/23/2003 at 1:01:15 AM ET Well, Bernadette is also Bernadette. People know her and love her. Of course the Gypsy table is going to take in a lot of money. Bernadette has an unbelievable resume and an inordinate amount of memorablia she can make valuable just by signing. The Gypsy table also had a HUGE selection. Basically, if you were a Bernadette fan, that was the place to be. There were all kinds of things, from autographed Playbills from 'Song and Dance' to autographed records of her first recording.
Actually, I think if Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick were still in The Producers, or shall I say, if they were in it RIGHT NOW (most, if not all, of the signed stuff at The Producers table was from the newer casts) that it would have given Gypsy a definite run for its money. Celebrity stuff just SELLS.
Also, just so people don't get the wrong idea and think that Patty went it alone, (and I know someone who would want this posted)a lot of other Gypsy cast and crew members showed up to sell stuff. The Gypsy kids made picture frames and bottlecap magnets and all sorts of arts and crafts -- and they worked the table. A bunch of adult cast members donated opening night memorabilia, and many of them worked the actual booth. (Jenna Gavigan, one of the Hollywood blondes, worked the entire second half of the day.)
But you are right, Moljul. Patty definitely works very hard at all the Bernadette fundraising functions. She is usually there from open to close. I can see why she's had such a steady job for so many years.

Regis: And look at all this hair. My God. That's a lot of hair. Look at this. How does hair get this way?
Bernadette: Um.. it sort of grew out of my head like this.

I believe Patty became Bernadette's assistant in the early 80s. I remember some story about them meeting at a film or theater festival.

Patty and the rest of the cast and crew that worked at the table all day did a great job. They were all in good spirits throughout the day, and I think when you're in a good mood, people are drawn to you. Besides them all being such wonderful people, their table did have the better selection of items; and I'm not just saying that as a fan of Bernadette and Gypsy. The other tables that were there have had pretty much the same stuff for the past few years. Gypsy's table was new, and there probably hasn't been that much of a Bernadette selection since Annie Get Your Gun.
I'm so glad that BCEFA did so great this year in raising money.
