I don't know why it took my so long to realize this but the conductor of the Gypsy orchestra, Marvin Laird, is the same Marvin that leads the orchestra on her Concert DVD and Sondheim Etc. CD. Before singing "Some People" Bernadette tells how she met Marvin when she was younger. Its neat that the two of them have stuck together for so long. And if you are blessed with the privelege of seeing Gypsy, look for Marvin, leading the extradinary players in Broadway's greatest score.
Just 8 more days until the CD comes out!!

They have worked together for YEARS. He has conducted every concert I have seen her in since 1994. I know that they go even further back that that. When I saw her concert this past September she talked about how they started in Gypsy as kids and will now return to the show in such a greater capacity. She laughed about everything coming full circle. If you haven't met Marvin, he is the NICEST man. He talked with me for a long time in Tulsa and Kansas City and I think he is both charming and wonderful. No wonder Bernadette has developed such a deep relationship with him. He is a true pro.

They also talked about it when Bernadette was on Inside the Actor's Studio. When James Lipton introduced Marvin as the one who would be accompanying her on piano, he comments on the fact that they met when she was first in Gypsy as a kid 195?.

Though actually Marvin was not a kid when he met Bernadette. He was in his early 20s and she was 13.

Yeah I believe they said on Inside the Actor's Studio that the tour of Gypsy they did together was in 1961
