Hey guys ~ I'm hoping to go to the Gypsy signing next week but I was wondering something...do you have to buy the cd at fye to have it signed...I know sometimes they make you show your receipt first. Also the same for that Carol Burnett book signing someone posted about. Should I buy everything at the stores where the signings are being held? Thanks for your help

I wondered the same thing. Just to play it safe though, I'm buying the cd at FYE.

From what I know of signings, the idea of the actual signing is to get people to buy the CD (or book) that is being promoted at the store. So I'm pretty sure you have to buy it there. (Although if you've got other stuff, like, say, an ITW CD libretto, they might allow that in if they're allowing Bernadette to sign more than one item.)

To be on the safe side, I'd say just get there early and buy a copy. But then again, this is where I get confused; I'm not entirely sure how this works with CDs (as opposed to books,) since CDs are all prepackaged in that NASA indestructable plastic wrap. Do you go and buy the CD from the shelf first and THEN get in line? Or do they have stacks of unpackaged CDs by the autograph table, and then once you get the autograph, you go and pay for the CD?

Anyone who's been to the AGYG signing or the R&H signing know how this works?

Regis: And look at all this hair. My God. That's a lot of hair. Look at this. How does hair get this way?
Bernadette: Um.. it sort of grew out of my head like this.

The R&H signing you had to buy the CD first; but that was at Virgin Megastore, not FYE. They might have a different procedure.
Also, I doubt you'll be able to get other memorabilia signed (such as something from AGYG or ITTW) because it is not Bernadette's CD signing, it is GYPSY's CD signing. There will be 2 other people there signing the CD's with Bernadette, and asking her to sign other things would hold up the line.

As far as Carol's book signing, I was at that particular Barnes & Noble the other day and I saw a sign saying that she will not be signing other memorabilia.

Well if I can go then I'll buy it there to be safe. If I hear anything else about that I'll post it. Thanks

Barnes and Noble are VERY strict about their No-Memorabilia Rule, and they literally have a staff member hand your books to the authors to sign. When I went to a signing for Jamie Lee Curtis' most recent kids book, there were people with bags of memorabilia and photos, who were told they could not have them signed. One obnoxious man pulled out a photo when got up there and she did sign it, mostly because she seemed to not want to offend--because he also had a book. The retail stores are all well aware that many of the signed items end up on eBay, and they are alert to memorabilia. It was the same with Julie Andrews. They had no limit of copies she would sign, and some people, quite literally, were buying them by the CASE, and Ms. Andrews obliged. The FYE store may have a limit of 2-3 copies, and will most likely prohibit memorabilia. It's the norm these days...and since Bernadette signs things nightly after GYPSY, I personally feel a sense of obligation and fairness to other fans in line to not take up the time with anything other than the CD. It is, after all, a promo event for the CD.

P.S.: The line for FYE signings is OUTSIDE the store, on the street, so prepare accordingly if it looks like rain. Lines are usually routed either on 52nd Street, or along 6th Avenue, depending on the crowd size.
