| posted: 8/1/2003 at 1:00:30 AM ET Anyone catch the Jim and Tammy Fay movie tonight on LMN? Missed it today, but will try to catch it tomorrow. I'ven never seen it. I just can't see Bernadette as Tamy Faye? Any thoughts?

I think it is one of her best performances, in film anyway (just my opinion, of course). (I think the film itself MAYBE touched a little too lightly on some of the truths of what happened, but, I don't take movie bios to be entirely true-to-life.)

She's extremely realistic and believable as Tammy Faye Bakker--really makes her human and real without any caricaturing or distancing. I've read more than one interview with Bakker herself saying that she and her children all thought it was great and very accurate. She even said that if they ever made any other film about her that Bernadette is the only one who could portray her. She didn't care for Spacey as her husband, but I agree with Jean that he was excellent as well. Strange that it didn't win any Emmys. That was the third in a trilogy of absolutely great TV movie performances that Bernadette gave in the late eighties-early nineties, the others being David and The Last Best Year (my personal favorite). For some mysterious reason I don't think she was even nominated for an Emmy for any of them. As the title of one of her sixties 45s says "You're Taking Me For Granted". LOL.

From: MN | posted: 8/3/2003 at 12:57:07 AM ET Oh gosh...I was have about a half an hour left to finish of that movie. (...Just got digital cable- was soo excited b/c I now have LMN to watch this film)-random. lol
My tape ran out when I set the timer (I was out), so when I watched it yesterday, it cut off during a climatic point in the movie (at least to me I view it as the climatic part of the film). ::sighs:: These things always have to happen to me. LOL
But anyways, so far- Bernadette is incredible. I agree w/ both of u on how she just makes Tammy real and etc. It's so true.
I guess I'll have to wait again for it to air (I watched it later on in the afternoon, after it re-aired that morning )
::sighs:: LOL oh well..another time
Take care,
Stacy

She made me like her as a person (as before seeing the movie I did not). I also enjoyed her singing. (Bernadette singing gospel was something new for me.) Overall an enjoyable performance.
