During this time, Maureen Moore stood in for "Mamma Rose," and from what I understand, she was quite good. Someone I ran into said that she got a standing ovation at the end of the show.
So I was just curious if any of you had seen her perform, or know of anyone who has? If you have seen her perform, what did you think? Comparable to Bernadette? A completely different emotional interpretation? I'd love to hear opinions.

She was good when I saw her as Rose but she lacks the "IT Factor" that Bernadette possesses so much. She doesn't automatically draw your attention when she is on stage. The difference between Bernadette and Maureen - one is a theater legend and star, the other is a successful always working theater actress.

Anyway, I thought she did an excellent job. My respect for her performance heightened after the show when John Dossett mentioned that she'd only performed the role once previously, and only got to rehearse a few scenes before the show the night I saw it-I guess they had found out only that afternoon that Bernadette was going to be out or something.
My point is that I was very impressed by her ability to perform so wonderfully on such short notice-the markings of a good actor, I suppose. (I, for one, don't feel comfortable unless I have lots of rehearsal.)
I don't know how Maureen compares to Bernadette in this role-the previous poster has a point, that Bernadette can draw you in as no one else can.
Did any of that rambling of mine make sense?
