I saw "Into the Woods" yesterday. I had never seen it live before, but have watched the video (quite a bit). The production and performances were terrific. Vanessa Williams played the Witch quite differently from Bernadette-not very funny, and, oddly, not as angry/vengeful as Bernadette. The last Witches song ("Last Midnight") has been restaged with, I think, some new lyrics, and is better than the original.
Milky White is now a real live cow, and is very effective, as is the singing wolf twosome.

I don't know if you all know...but Dennis Kelly, who was in Annie Get Your Gun with Bernadette ( as Bufallo Bill) And Kerry O'Malley who was in Annie Get Your Gun as well..and even went on as Annie a few times..are both in the revival of Into the Woods .

I don't know about the new lyrics. They replaced the "You're so nice" couplet, and I honestly think that's a downer, since it is very important to the witch's character. And besides I don't think the new lyrics are as effective, even if they work (I can't remember precisely, but I read them on Sondheim.com ITW forum)

Here are the new lyrics: "You're so nice, etc" is replaced by "You're so pure. Just stay here and in time you'll mature
And grow up to be them so let's fly, you and I, far away" (sung to the baby). They also changed some of the end ones for "Think I'll have some more" (she's eating the beans)and "You don't want me to stay, so I'll just go away" (ain't that lame?) Anyway, just so you'll know...
