I just bought a ticket for tonight and unfortunately it is in the front of the balcony. (that's all they had available) Has anyone sat there and how is the view?

Thanks so so so much for your help.

The view, particularly from the front is very good. The mezz and balcony are set very close to the stage. I've only sat there once and I felt a little disconnected from the show but it still is not a terrible seat. You may miss out on a little of the "wow" factor at the end of both acts but I'm sure you will still very much enjoy the show.

Thanks so much. I was afraid I was going to feel miles away.

Per usual, moljul, you are a great source of useful information. Thank you! I'm going for my second time at the end of the summer and will be sitting in the fourth row center of the mezzanine. Glad to hear that it won't feel like I'm in outer space. There were tickets available in rows T and back in the orchestra so I thought I'd try the mezzanine this time. Heck, if it doesn't work out I can always see it again! Hmmm, there's a pattern here: Pippin-4 times, A Chorus Line-4 times, Fosse-4 times. ha, ha lol Thanks again!

4th Row Center Mezz is an excellent seat. I think this show, overall, is best viewed from the first few rows of the mezzanine. You get a better perspective of the entire show. Now if you are going solely to see Bernadette as close as possible, orchestra seats close-up are probably preferrable but from strictly a show standpoint the mezz is the best. Of course you miss the beginning of Bernadette's entrance. Twice I have been at the end of the row in the orchestra which means Bernadette has walked right by me. Last Saturday I even kept my head looking back so I could see when she arrived in the back of the theater. She really just gets there in the nick of time (which I'm sure is the point). I overhead her security guard telling another guy (probably another security guard) how to secure the area for her entrance. He was telling him how much space to clear for her so he can move people if he needs to. It was kind of funny to overhear.

Th balocyu gets a bum rap most of the time, but it affords a nice view in many Broadway theatres. What is good about the Shubert is that, although it is higher than the Mezzanine level, it is not much farther back--this is far better than the "Rear Mezzanine" section at many theatres. To some people, you are not really seeing the show if you are not in the orchestra section, but this is so silly. Over the years, I have heard MANY people who paid top dollar for seats twenty or so rows back in the orchestra to complain loudly that they could not see, or hear--and strangely, I never experience this on those occasions when I am "stuck" in the balcony. Just a few observations!

I agree about the rear of the orchestra. I thought the sound for Gypsy was just a little flatter sounding sitting there than in the balcony. Of course it was interesting to have Peters standing right next to my seat while she waited to make her entrance, but she looked so intense and, I don't know, kinda fierce that I only dared glance at her. I also found that if your seat is too close, even if your Seat #1 on the aisle, you miss Peters mimicking June and some of the lighting effects. Sound was good there though and it was great for watching Marvin conduct. Hope to make it back and sit in the front of the Mezz. if I can't get center orch. in front of the overhang.

The best seats in the house( I think) are definitely center orchestra. That's usually where my seats are for the show. For the first preview I had 1st row center orchestra. I could see everything (even when Rose is mimicking the kids on the sides of the stage). The only down side was the orchestra being so loud from there. Other than that though I loved those seats.
I sat in the balcony once. I personally, did not like those seats at all. First of all they were so tight that your legs were smushed up into the seat infront of you (and I'm only 5'2 so that should give you some idea of how tight those seats actually are). Plus, its almost as if your right on top of the stage, its very awkward and somewhat disconnected.
The extreme sides of the orchestra are ok, but you still miss some of what is going on (depending on which side your sitting on). When I saw Chicago again a few years ago our seats were in the far left orchestra(about 10 rows back(more or less) and our view was almost completely blocked by a huge pole. For the he majority of times that I've seen Gypsy I have sat dead center in the orchestra and they've seemed to be the best seats in the house.

I pretty much agree about the balcony seats. Your legs are definately scrunched up (im 5'8"..thank god for intermission! lol). Although you kinda do feel like your hovering over the stage the feeling wasnt enough to take away from my enjoyment of the show. (I was in row G towards the side). Of course Ive never really minded sitting up in higher seating...its kind of fun to get a different perspective on things. To sum up, if balcony is all you can afford they are still worth it!
