As sold out as sold out can be:
But mama calls out very often, the louse,
So people get mad and get refunds, you see . . .
When Momma's not healthy.
If Momma was healthy, there'd be no despair
and no one would give us a "Boo!."
She'd get all the nay sayers out of her hair,
And once and for all, she'd get Reidel out, too . . .
If Momma was healthy.
Maureen, gets out her spare dress!
She's done it before--
With equal success--
Maureen, God speed and God bless,
She knows the whole score--
And doesn't need rest!
Oh, Momma be smart
And go see a doctor today.
I'll gladly support you,
I'll even escort you--
And I'll gladly show you the way!
Oh, Momma, get healthy today!
If Momma was healthy there wouldn't be any more--
"Let me reimburse you,"
"She's been out a while."
"Do they think we're rich"
"She is such a bitch."
"She's out, Louise!"
"What a baby!"
Momma, please take our advice:
They hate diva runts.
When paying full price.
Momma, this habit ain't nice,
You're in the show once
Then miss the show twice!
It could be so nice
If Momma got healthy to stay.
But Momma gets sickly--
And--
Sickly--
And--
Sickly
And still gets the part anyway.
Oh, Momma,
Oh, Momma,
Oh, Momma, get healthy today!

| posted: 5/14/2003 at 3:21:06 PM ET I think it was very unthoughtfull of you to post that entire piece of crap here.
I'm sure you (whoever you are) knew full well that Bernadette's fans would not enjoy reading it.
Perhaps it was not your intent to make people angry (if not I apologize); but I just don't think you should have posted that here.
Whoever thought of that in the first place is really pathetic for even wasting their time; sitting around writing it.
Keep the garbage on All That Chat where it belongs, because we don't want it here!

| posted: 5/14/2003 at 3:47:41 PM ET I'm not sure it was that terrible that it was posted. If this person had posted that someone had updated the lyrics to If Momma Were Married using Bernadette's illness, I'm sure several people would have wanted to know what they were or where to find them. Just like when we have all posted about Reidel in the Post that we have either posted what he said or provided a link. The poster entitled his link "looks like the jokes aren't stopping" which clearly makes me think this person feels the Bernadette badgering is getting old as well.
The lyrics were clearly written by a rather talented person when it comes to lyric writing but also someone who has very poor judgement on what is appropriate to make fun of and what is not.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 5/14/2003 at 4:08:18 PM ET I'm with Christine. It's not funny, it's a tired rehash of a way overdone topic, and why on earth is it being posted on a Bernadette Peters fan board for God's sake. I know the usual suspects over at ATC are drooling over it like it's the second coming of Noel Coward, but witty it ain't. Sorry for the rant, but I've run out of all patience with the relentless and utterly inexplicable Bernadette bashing. Can we please let this board be a refuge from all that nastiness?

Registered: 12/8/2002 | posted: 5/14/2003 at 4:29:09 PM ET Personally, I find the whole thing to be entirely ridiculous. I think it shows poor judgment on behalf of the poster that posted this foolishness. I'm having a hard time believing that this individual had good intentions coming to a fan site and taking the time to type out all the lyrics, but then again, I could be completely wrong. All I can say is the person that wrote the lyrics to this song succeeded in being cleverly ignorant.

From: Brooklyn | posted: 5/15/2003 at 12:06:42 PM ET Why are people so angry that another human being is ill, instead of wish her well they write a song that could possibly hurt her and her fans feelings.
I know that this spring has been horrible on me due to allergies and I can't imagine what a respiratory infection must be like. I am sure Bernadette would have loved to be there every night but her health and well being should be much more important to everyone. Today's society is so self centered that we can't even allow others to be ill if it in any way inconvenience's' us.
I just want to say that celebrities are human and have the same problems we all have and suffer from life just as everyone else.

| posted: 5/15/2003 at 12:35:01 PM ET I, like most people, enjoy a good spoof; heck, "Forbidden Broadway" is one of my favorite shows. But there is a HUGE difference between funny and just plain mean.
They do spoof Bernadette in FB, and it's really quite funny...but they do it in good taste, most recently using last year's Tony Awards; and I will not be surprised if they soon spoof Gypsy. But to make make fun of someone because of something that is beyond their control (like an illness) is just wrong.

| posted: 5/17/2003 at 12:50:50 AM ET I really don't remember (off hand) how it went exactly, but a woman came on stage dressed as Bernadette (in just a plain black dress)...with the hair of course, and started naming people...but they had her messing up the lines and being cute about it, and constantly saying, "naturally" for things that really didn't go with the word.
Like she would say, "To re-cap tonight's winners: Best Lighting went to so and so, Best scenic design went to so and so, etc..." and then she said (with an envelope in hand) "and so, naturally, Best Musical goes to Thoroughly Modern Millie!" (even though they hadn't won any other award).
I don't think I made any sense
