A wonderful High School production of a play called GYPSY. The music was not loud enough, the trumpets were off key. The people in the audience around me talked, and SLEPT AND SNORED just before intermission! I was located in the orchestra row Q. SLOW< Acting unmoving. FOR THE PRICE OF THE TICKETS we have to look at fake doors and no backdrops? come on! MS Peters, although I LOVE HER Dearly, was tired, boring, and her singing was TERRIBLE! Voice cracking, cant hit high notes. THE ONLY THING SAVING THIS SHOW WAS THE WOMAN WHO PLAYED GYPSY ROSE LEE. SHE WAS PHENOMINAL! and the man who played TULSA! I listened to the crowd as we were leaving the theatre, NO ONE LIKED IT! They all complained of all that I mentioned here. a SHAME. This could have been a real good time!
I Do not recommend this play at all to anyone.
We waited for MS PETERS at the stage door afterwards. Her ROLLS ROYCE and driver waited.....we clapped out of respect as she emerged, looking beautiful as ever. SHE NEEDS TO PUT SOME ENERGY INTO THIS ROLE! not JUST say the lines. and the music should be LOUDER!
JUST MY TAKE ON THIS BOMB!
thanks.

"I Do not recommend this play at all to anyone."

Well, then do not recommend it someplace else because everyone here has either thoroughly enjoyed it or is looking foward to seeing it.

Why would you wait for her at the stage door if you didn't even like her performance? Especially if you thought she was tired, boring, and sung terribly!? And who are you to call the show a Bomb? A bomb is something that has nothing but poor reviews and poor ticket sales, and this production of Gypsy does not have that!

"NO ONE LIKED IT!"
Really? You spoke to hundreds of people in a matter of minutes? That's amazing! Or maybe you just heard a small number of people mention they didn't like it, and decided to let that small group represent an entire theater full of people.

I guess those who CAN, DO....and those who CAN'T, CRITICIZE.

I just do not understand why people do this. Are you just trying to stir something? You have come to something called a FAN SITE.
Definition: A website specifically designed for people who admire and are "fanatical" about the subject in question
If you've come to dirty the name of the show...you've come to the wrong place, mate!

they say bernadette's wonderful..........and she is

That is absolutely what this person has come here to do Jenny (by the way, love the new pic).
And I was just going to ignore the post completely, but why? People like that should be put in there place.

If someone wants to criticize, go ahead...it's a free country. But why do it where you KNOW it will make most people angry. That's just childish.

I waited for her because I LIKE her. Just because her performance was not up to expectations doesnt mean I wont applaud her for everything else she has done. I posted this here cause I came here before the show. Trying to get truthful opinions on the show before I went. If I was going I would want to KNOW there is no scenery, I would want to KNOW that the audience seemed to be bored. I would want to KNOW that the music was not loud enough etc. Maybe it was just an off night for her, but come on, her singing this night was horrendous. I almost would have appreciated the understudy!

I think everyone should be able to voice their opinions on this board- positive or negative...as long as its not degrading to its members or profane in any way. I just look at it this way....its "scottfecks" loss.
The thing that cracked me up the most..."FOR THE PRICE OF THE TICKETS we have to look at fake doors and no backdrops?" What show did you see?? They DID add backdrops and they didn't use cardboard for the doors, did they? They may not be attached to walls but they're still REAL doors. Its just very funny to see someone who's probably never been involved in a professional production ( certainly not one that could match Gypsy's stature) make such strong comments. I say this because #1 he called Gypsy a play, when it is infact a MUSICAL. #2 He said the best part of the show "was the woman who played Gypsy Rose Lee" and "the man who played Tulsa", yet he couldn't even seem to remember their names or apparently doesn't have enough respect to atleast post their names( since he liked them "so" much). Its also interesting to note the words he put in uppercase... if the Gypsy he saw was a "high school" production( like he says it was),then the review I just read by this poster was very highschool-like( no offense to those of you still in high school!) So, I do respect, eventhough I don't agree with, "scottfecks" opinions, however, I certainly would take this post with a grain of salt.

Not to be antagonistic but I personally believe that when giving feedback one should always be constructive. I find the above so called "review" to be nothing but destructive banter. I respect most all constructive feedback but I find that when individuals appear to be hurtful that what they are saying is pointless and useless.

I apologize to those who frequent this site for my candor.

I agree with everyone's post here about how no one should degrade anyone's work. If you don't like the show, please use constructive criticism. For example, maybe you have an opinion of what they should add to the sets. The entire cast and crew have been working extremely hard, often for 5 hours a day, BEFORE a show for a month! They deserve better respect than what "scottfecks" gave them. Gypsy is undoubtably one of the greatest musicals ever written in the history of theatre. Rose, is perhaps one of the most demanding roles out there. Please take in account that this new production of Gypsy has to follow in Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, Bette Midler, and Tyne Daly's footsteps. This production takes a new angle on the way Rose and other characters are. Many people out there are not open-minded at all. Scottfecks, give Gypsy another chance. I'm sure you'll see that the direction Mr. Mendes gives brings something new to the musical and Ms. Peters also gives it a new kick.
