I noticed that the other night Heather Tepe wasn't wearing her pointe shoes( aka toe shoes). She had on her tap shoes. I'm wondering if maybe either her feet hurt from opening night...the party and all or if someone had said something about a young girl doing pointe like that and they decided for her not to wear the shoes anymore or maybe even something happened with the shoes and she just coudln't wear them that night. For those of you who don't know....its sort of a controversial issue for young girls to be doing pointe before they hit puberty. It can lead to a lot of health problems such as tendinitis. I would think doing pointe on tap shoes would be extremely dangerous and not very healthy...so I was surprised. Most of the time a child under 10 who dances ( or studies) en pointe should not generally study while wearing pointe shoes( usually in soft slippers) unless they have exceptional strength in their ankles and legs which I am assuming Heather does..and by watching her dance...she is AMAZING! I am assuming she started VERY young.

I don't know the answer to your question but I would be surprised if they completely get rid of the point shoes. Baby June was known as the littlest point dancer or something like that. Hopefully the time on pointe in the show is so minimal that it won't cause and damage and they will be able to have her wear them again.

There's no doubt that June was a prodigy. As far as Heather, you can't just do pointe in a show for 3 mins and that's it...it takes practice and just like performing, that practice can lead to health problems/risks.

Don't get me wrong..I really enjoy seeing Heather dance...she is incredible!! And I was hoping they'd still have Baby June do pointe. I'm just hoping it doesn't cause her any injury. Her pointe shoes look rather bulky. I don't know if they're like that to accentuate the fact that she's doing pointe or that they were made to look the way maybe a 30's style toe shoe would look like. I've just never seen a toe shoe look quite so bulky. A proper fit and the ability to "feel the floor" is essential for a dancer's technique. I have noticed that the box of the shoe is not as narrow as most toe shoes which is good because it allows room for her growing bones. There's no doubt Heather is extremely talented! I'm in awe of that girl! As is, the audience each night, I think. She usually gets a pretty great response from the audience! In most shows I've seen that have kids you have to strain to hear them but with Heather, her voice is just so strong you can hear her with no problem. She's a great twirler too!
