Bernadette "called out" of work sick tonight and will not be performing. Hopefully she's gettting some well deserved rest!

I will do the same Mike. Let's all hope she feels better soon and is not unfairly criticized some more. It really hurts me to read some of the things people say.

Thankfully, she will be getting some well deserved rest. It's best that she take a breather so she doesn't do any permanent damage to her vocal chords.
I'm a bit excited to hear this news (is that wrong?  ) because I think it will be very interesting to hear how Maureen does in the role tonight! If anyone sees tonight's show, or knows of another chat that will have some comments about it, please post!!!

From what I've heard, a LOT of people refunded their tickets tonight after hearing Bernadete as out...what ashame. Poor Maureen

Well, even though there aren't going to be as many people there... It's good for Maureen cause she'll get practice for when the show really happens... You know in case Bernadette has an accide... (God forbid!)

Pretty tough time to get sick, but glad to hear she's taking the night off and not risking ruining her voice. When Betty Buckley did Gypsy back in '98 at Papermill, she missed four or more performances due to illnes in only an 8 week run of the show and when I saw Sweeney at the Kennedy Center last summer Christine Baranski started to loose her voice during the show and missed the next performances which were being done in rep. so she didn't even have to do dozens of shows each week. I'm sure that parasite at the Post must be salivating at the moment, here's hoping he's eating crow May 1.

There's been people posting on ATC today saying Bernadette will not be in Gypsy tonight...I was told otherwise( that she WILL be there). I guess we'll see at 8 Hopefully she is feeling much better.

I think it's good that she not rush back. I think that's what Buckley did and then missed more performances when she did Gypsy.
On the plus side, I have now heard reports from a few people that I actually know (not that I don't value the opinions here)who have seen Merman, Lansbury, Daly and all were positive for the show and Peters. One commented about the difficulting of competing with the memories of Merman and Lansbury which made me wonder if the award nominators and voters will really be judging Peters performance against the musical actresses of this season or against their past memories of other Roses. If that's clear and makes any sense.

AWWW, I was in Manhattan yesterday too! I should have gone to see Maureen in the role.....oh well.  I'm glad Bernadette is not rushing back too soon...I'm sure her Doctor, family, and friends had to convince her not to go on though. She's a pretty determined woman.

"That parasite at the Post", Michael Riedel, has a column today that's so over the top in its gleeful maliciousness that it almost reads like self-parody. He sounds like he's trying to build himself up into a tongue-in-cheek caricature of an evil oldtime gossip columnist. It's so extreme, you can't even get mad at him anymore.
