I SAW GYPSY FRIDAY NIGHT!!
...and poor Bernadette was struggling with an awful cold (it was obvious in ACT I but VERY obvious toward the end of the show). However, this upped-the-ante on her performance and she gave it a thrilling surge of tornado that was just spellbinding.
I'm sure the critics and the purists will disapprove of Bernadette being cast in this at all but always note this: critics and purists are the lowest people on the aristic food chain--it is the EASIEST thing in the world to sit and critique work. You never had to take a risk, you don't have to have talent, you don't have to have a vision...you don't have to do anything--except judge.
While a lot of people may be skeptical about Peters doing Mama Rose; rest assured that she is working with a tremendous director who gives her a strong, inspiring push--she's terrific.
A must-see.
