"Two Momma Roses in one place!? This just might be too much for our diva-loving hearts to handle. Gypsy vets Bette Midler and Bernadette Peters looked like they were having an absolutely divine time at Midler's 12th Annual New York Restoration Project Spring Picnic at Gracie Mansion on May 30."

"It is marvelous to know you. And it's never really through. Crazy business this, this life we live in. Can't complain about the time we're given. With so little to be sure of in this world. We have a moment. A marvelous moment."

playbill

and, from Vanity Fair:

"...New York mayor Mike Bloomberg also pitched in as ad hoc auctioneer, grabbing the microphone from Hugh Hildesley of Sotheby’s and offering, for $100,000, tickets to Midler’s Broadway show, followed by dinner with him, girlfriend Diana Taylor, Bernadette Peters, Michael Kors, and Bette and her husband, Martin von Haselberg.

This was a surprise not only to event organizers but also to those involved. Peters, seated at VF Daily’s table, definitely had no idea that she would be sold to the highest bidder for a night out on the town. But all for a good cause, right?"

Of course, Bette Midler is a notorious homophobe. You know that, right? Why on earth does she have any gay fans left at this point? I don't get it. She's practically as far to the right as the vomitous Joan Rivers. So is Mary Tyler Moore. Actually, Mary is now even further to the right. Mary calls herself a "libertarian" which means "I have my millions, so get out of my sight and fuck you." She's also about to die so, out of fear, has returned to the cult of the catholic church in which she was raised. Just an FYI.

That's pretty depressing about MTM. I saw an interview with her a couple of years ago and she mentioned something about watching Faux News and my jaw dropped. In the animal rescue group I work with there are a few people who are kind of the same way, people who are sincerely concerned about animal welfare and such but so completely ignorant about the disasterous public policy that wingnuts advocate that directly affects the very work that we do.

As far as Bette Midler, I could post a youtube link to her CNN interview where she questioned gay marriage by musing on the supposed promiscuity of gay males (as though that would have anything to do with anything). However, since that was from almost ten years ago it would probably be unfair. Yeah, she's probably updated her thinking by now since today even mainstream Republicans are pro-gay marriage. The point is she was a hold-out and not a pioneer in that area.

Also, I do admit that my definition of right-wing is not everyone's. Midler calls herself a traditional U.S. centrist or liberal Democrat. In my book, that's right-wing. Now granted, that's not the typical American view, but once you get outside of this country most people in the rest of the world would agree with me.

Leaving Bette Midler aside, I don't think anyone (even an American) would deny that Joan Rivers and MTM have been raging fascists for some time now.

Oh yeah and by the way, I'm gay and almost all of my friends are gay and we've disliked Bette Midler for a long time now. We used to love her decades ago, but we figured out a long time ago that she was just using her fanbase and actually couldn't stand them. If you don't believe me, go to any gay message board or social media area and you'll see that.

For those wanting more verification, I tried to do links but they didn't work somehow. So go to campaignmoney.com

If you enter Bette Midler you will see her record of contributions including in 2000 to Rudy Giuliani's exploratory committee for president, in 2004 to Dick Gephardt's presidential campaign, in 2006 to James Webb for U.S. Senate from Virginia, in 2012 to Howard Berman for U.S. Congress. Needless to say, none of these people could be called progressives or anything other than exceptionally corrupt conservative hacks.
