I think the reason her hair is up in the photos( if that much thought actually went into her hair styles) is probably because she is playing a professional ( a psychologist) in the movie. Lets face it...she is very well known for her beautiful curly hair...this way I think it takes the attention of her hair and puts it more on her character and also makes her look a *little* more in the professional track.

| posted: 2/4/2003 at 10:48:13 PM ET Well its a new pose that hasn't been used in any of the publicity pictures that have put out on the web so I thought others would be interested. The point of this board, I thought. Yes obviously it is from the other picture sitting. I've seen a lot of pictures from the movie and while her hair is up it isn't up in that fashion. I don't think it has anything to do with her profession in the movie. The main picture on the website has then all around a sofa and her hair is down. At any rate I was just commenting that I don't like the hairstyle on her that much.

Registered: 3/10/2001 | posted: 2/4/2003 at 11:04:08 PM ET whoa..simma don nah( from SNL for those of you who didn't get that LOL)The topic of the thread which said "NEW movie picture" led me to believe that maybe you thought it was new. I guess you already knew it wasn't
The hair comment was an opinion..that's all just an opinion...doesn't mean its right or wrong. The hairstyle is something different..not the way we usually see her hair...I was saying that maybe they were trying to go for a new look...something that maybe isn't associated with how her hair normally looks...
I still think it makes her look a little bit more "professional" tho
I can't wait to see how her wigs will be designed for Gypsy. I have a feeling they'll be blonde...since they've been empasizing how much Bernadette resembles the real Mama Rose.
The Vanity Fair photo shoot has her pretty much in charcter as Mama Rose but they didn't use a wig(from what I've heard) so it should be awesome to see when they're revealed! David did a beautiful job with her wigs for Annie Get Your Gun! Many people didn't even realize that it wasn't her real hair!

| posted: 2/5/2003 at 9:53:45 AM ET I think she does look more professional (as a psychologist) with her hair up, but I think the photo would have been more flattering for Bernadette if it was a profile shot.
I just think they positioned her very awkwardly. Like she could have at least had her hand resting on the son's shoulder; I just think she looks very stiff and unrelaxed.
Even in the photo before that one (on the link that moljul gave)...her arm positioning is much better, but she still looks slightly unrelaxed. She tends to be stretching her neck and sort of looking up. However, I think it is to signify that she is the backbone of the family. Everyone else in the photo is sort of slumped down, and she is standig very tall and proud.
Just my thought on the marketing behind the movie.
*I can't wait to see the wigs for Gypsy either! I have a strong feeling they will be blonde, which may be a disadvantage if they are too light (platinum would be too "Bernadette in the 70's). But I'm sure they'll be great!

Registered: 12/8/2002 | posted: 2/5/2003 at 10:14:03 AM ET I also think that the reason Bernadette's hair is up is to give her a professional look. If her hair had been down, i think it would've drawn too much attention to her(just as bwaybaby said) Thats just my opinion though! And I also agree that she does look quite rigid in these poses....i don't know if it has do do with her character or what, but i definitely noticed it. She looks very stiff compared to the other cast members. But it's all good!

Now i feel all weird for getting technical and talking about her hair and positioning in these photos....reminds me too much of the previous conversations that were posted on the board in the past...good lord!

Registered: 3/10/2001 | posted: 2/5/2003 at 12:50:04 PM ET I definately have to agree with what was said about how they positioned her for the photos! From what I remember ( before they changed and added things in the movie) Bernadtte's character, Rebecca, is most definitely the "backbone" of the family(like Christine said). She appears to be the most "normal" one and the one who is thinking more clearly then the rest. She's also the one who is trying to keep everything together for everyone else and for the family as a whole.

| posted: 2/6/2003 at 5:54:28 PM ET There is a picture of Rose in the Vanity Fair magazine but it is Rose later in life and it is a profile of her. Here's an excerpt from the article that explains what Rose was like physically. I thought it was interesting and right in line with what those involved with the revival have been saying. And she was apparently brunette, not blonde.
"She was by all accounts quite charming, a petite brunette with violet eyes, vulnerable-looking, a mantrap. She was feminine, little, and when she did have an emotional outburst it was a helpless, noisy, hysterical little bird. She cried when she was angry, grew vengeful when roused and lied."
Not quite like the Ethel Merman Rose everyone has in their minds.

| posted: 2/7/2003 at 12:35:04 PM ET Yeah I read that her her was brown too, but I thought (and still think) that they might use a blonde wig; Bernadette kept saying it, so who knows.
Truthfully, I've been saying for a while that they should use a light brown wig because it would be more realistic; I didn't even know the real Rose had brown hair. But, they may not go with brown in this show because they're trying to stay away from what Ethel Merman did.

Registered: 3/10/2001 | posted: 2/8/2003 at 3:22:14 PM ET For those inetersted....the movie poster is now available( it looks exactly like the photo Moljul posted). It has been brought to my attention that a few websites are selling the poster as well as it being up for auction on Ebay.Don't know exactly what you'd do with it LOL( from someone who has far too many posters and no idea where to put them)...just thought you'd like to know its available now
Btw, I like the catch-phrase they've been using for the commericals/promos and on the poster: " Sometimes families can survive anything. Even each other." It seems to fit the movie very very well. Makes it out to be much more of a comedy...its sorta of like a dark comedy I guess at times. The commercials/promos I have seen for it are hilarious! Altho, the movie itself does have many serious moments in it.
