I wish I was able to go to the Barnes & Noble signing; I'd really like to meet Stephen Sondheim (and see Bernadette, of course). Much sadness.

One of these days I'm going to move to NY just so I can go to these types of events. Lol.

It wasn't that great...very assembly line. And some guy who just showed up was talking to Bernadette and Stephen, from BEHIND them, the whole time my stuff was in front of them. They did sign my CDs, they just weren't really looking at what they were doing or who owned what they were signing. So they didn't know I existed...though at least Bernadette seemed to realize that fans were getting brushed off because as I was shuffling away in defeat she said to the guy, "I have to keep signing these" and turned back around to the line of fans. So I just had bad timing, and she was really trying to be gracious to her fans, just being stretched very thin.

I'm sorry you didn't have a better experience, ripley123. It sucks about the assembly line thing, but I understand why they have to do it that way.

That was nice of Bernadette to recognize what was going on with people in line getting brushed off. She's always so generous to her fans.

Did anybody in line get to have a brief conversation with those in the cast?

AMH, yes I talked to Elaine Paige, Jan Maxwell, Ron and Danny, Florence, Terri, several of the others. Really Bernadette and Stephen were the only ones that I didn't get to say anything to at all, and that didn't talk to me at all. I think it was really just me that got ushered away, and I don't think she realized that they weren't going to let me wait until she finished her conversation with the guy behind her. You know, people normally wait for Bernadette LOL! The tone of her voice when she said, "I have to keep signing these" had a little growl to it, like she couldn't believe how we were being raced through and that she was being held to a certain pace. So she didn't really see me but she signed my CD booklets and I think heard me peep, "Bernadette...", was aware that she missed the person who matched the booklets and the voice, and was a little perturbed about it. Which although it doesn't do me any good as a fan, at least my respect and admiration for her is fully intact, and I am pleased to know that the good things I hear about her personality are true!

Glad you got to speak with a few of the cast members. What was Elaine Paige like? I've heard she's super nice and very funny.

Such a bummer that you didn't get to say anything to Bernadette or Sondheim. I wish the B&N people would've let you wait until they finished their conversation with the guy behind them. But again, very nice of Bernadette to want to give her full attention to each of her fans; she definitely has a great personality. I've only met her once--at the FOLLIES stagedoor--but I got to say a couple words to her and she seemed to take a genuine interest in what I was saying.

You know, people normally wait for Bernadette LOL!

LOL indeed!

Elaine Paige was delightful. Absolutely delightful. I also made a point of really thanking and talking to those who were in front of me. I mean, they were coming off a 5-show weekend, they all work like dogs in that show, they have 2 shows Wednesdays, and now here they are signing like maniacs. I felt like they deserved better than to have people just look longingly past them at Peters and Sondheim, and I DID genuinely appreciate and admire them, and I really tried to get over my shyness and let them know. They noticed.

I can meet Bernadette, I just thought I would try a non-intrusive way that didn't ask anything of personal connections first...and a time that was good with my OWN schedule LOL! If I get my friend to take me backstage, that just really ups the ante for me socially, and I don't know. If Bernadette is as reticent and shy as people say she is, I'm afraid we will just sit there, looking slightly down at the ground, mutually feeling awkward. Fun times! So...yeah, I think I will just wait for fate to intervene if I'm meant to ever meet or work with her.

You're absolutely right about the cast! They work so hard to put on a great show, and it's wonderful of them to spend time with fans, signing autographs.

I admire your restraint in asking your friend to take you backstage. I definitely don't think I would be able to resist that! LOL!

Not too much restraint...it would also take major coordination and would not be at all convenient for my friend to do, and I'd feel like such a drip if I put her through a bunch of scheduling hassle and then stood there and mumbled something stupid at Bernadette, along the lines of, "Your hair is really curly." Which is what I would probably do.

LOL!!! No, I'm sure you would have something more to say. But even if you did say something like, "Your hair is really curly," I bet Bernadette would just smile and say, "Thank you."

But I know what you mean about wanting to have something good to say. When I met Bernadette at the stagedoor, I mentioned that I was seeing her in concert next year. She said, "Oh, really? Where?" I wasn't really expecting her to say anything back to me except, "That's nice," so my response came out as, "N-N-Newark." I felt like such an idiot. LOL.
