Was recently (9/30 -10/3) in NYC and saw three wonderful shows! "A Little Night Music" (3rd row center) was spectatular! Bernadette and Elaine are terrific comic actresses. A most lovely evening.Bought my ticket by phone in Sept.
Also worth seeing is "Next to Normal" ..Marin Mazzie is one of the most gifted actresses...she cries in almost every scene...I mean facially drenched! I was in the 2nd row. ( I came to NY alone..hence getting a good single seat is easy!) "The Adams Family" is outstanding...so funny, great technology, good messages and great music. (8th row centre!)
I came alone because no one had the passion for Broadway or Bernadette to spend the money. Actually, I kind of like being alone as you don't have to answer to anybody. ..and good traveling companions are hard to find! I'm never afraid there, as police protection is so evident, and I just move along with the crowds. I'm more afraid going at night to my local supermarket! I'm somewhat poor now..but it was worth it.

To the loveliest lady of song!
You will keep on giving me joy forever...

Glad you had such a good time. I know what you mean about traveling alone. If you have a traveling companion who you really clicked with it can be a lot of fun but just being responsible to yourself and being able to be flexible can be a lot of fun too.

"Particular mention must be made of Bernadette Peters, who turns up briefly in a sort of sparkly Glinda the Good costume. She's the reluctant muse sent to help Alice with her writing. The muse is dressed like Oz, sounds like Queens and behaves like a bored student adviser." Alice Film Review, The New York Times, December 25, 1990

"I'm one star away from Dolly Parton ... and Raymond Massey is between us. I hope we don't suffocate him." Bernadette Peters receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, April 24, 1987

I just got back from a NYC trip with six friends, and met four more in the city. It was a bit unwieldy, trying to move around a big group of people. Only my spouse went with me to the theater, and I of course bought the tickets!
I like NYC alot, I've never felt "unsafe" around there. The worst situation I've been in there was years ago in my fearless youth, I wound up on the subway by myself very very late and a bit too drunk, and I couldn't remember how to get back to where I was staying.
