My DVD won't play on either of my DVD players ... saying it is a different region. =(
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem with it?
I was really looking forward to watching this. =/

From: Los Angeles, CA | posted: 9/22/2010 at 5:24:11 AM ET Do you have a region-free DVD player? If not, that's why. I think the DVD is in PAL format (what they use in the UK and Australia) rather than NTSC which is what we use in the USA and Canada. You might be able to play it on your computer, if it has a region-free DVD drive.

From: CA | posted: 9/23/2010 at 7:52:20 PM ET You may need to switch the region on your DVD player to play "region all" instead of "region 1" or whatever region your DVD player is set to.
Here are some web sites that discuss switching the DVD player regions
http://www.wisebread.com/make-your-dvd-player-region-free-in-seconds

It seems a bit complected, but hope it helps.

From: Los Angeles, CA | posted: 9/25/2010 at 8:19:34 AM ET I'm not 100% sure but I think even if the disk says "region free" (which really just means it's not a "locked" disk) you still need something that can convert PAL to NTSC and region free DVD players can usually do that. Most TVs in the USA don't convert PAL to NTSC. (If you have an HDTV, you might be able to change settings somewhere so it can convert PAL to NTSC though.)
Does the box say what format it's in? PAL or NTSC? Because if it's PAL, even a region-free disk is irrelevant unless you have a device that can decode the PAL format (it has to do with how many lines and how fast the refresh rate is, sort of like how if you set your computer's video card to a resolution or refresh rate that isn't supported by your monitor, it won't work. The DVD may be telling your TV to display something it's not capable of.) Your DVD player may be able to detect what's going on and that's why you get the wrong country error. Or it's just reading the region code, sees 0 ("region free") and says hey that's not a region 1 disk (USA) I won't play that.
Many DVD players sold in the US are set at the factory so only region 1 disks play by default (some of them also explicitly lock out region 0, which is what a "region free" disk would usually be encoded as.) However sometimes there are easy ways to change it (sometimes it's just a "hidden" menu and you can use the remote to change the country code.) Other times it's hardware encoded on a chip, and you pretty much have to either replace the chip or reflash it.
Have you tried playing the disk in a computer's DVD drive? It might work, especially if it's an older DVD drive, which use software decoding rather than hardware. If that doesn't work, maybe try finding an older DVD player at a garage sale or a friend's attic or something. Either a stand alone or computer DVD player might work.
If none of those work, you could ask Santa for a region-free DVD player, they're not that expensive.
Or return the DVD and hope they release a USA version soon. The website you bought it from should clarify that "region free" or "all regions" doesn't necessarily mean a buyer's TV will be able to view it, only that the disk itself is "unlocked." It's (legally) playable in all countries, but not all equipment will be able to play it, especially in the Draconian USA where the government thinks we're all pirating thieves who will copy foreign disks, burn illicit copies and sell billions of them on ebay. So they get manufacturers to "lock" everything down, which takes hackers 20 minutes to crack and makes innocent people "locked out" of viewing things they paid for. I admit I didn't buy the DVD off that site because it wasn't clear what format the DVD was in and I didn't want to pay that much only to have it not work (although the site is based in the UK so I figured it's PAL format.) I'm hoping for a USA version, like they did with her London DVD. It might take a couple years of whining/begging but "her people" do seem to listen to her fans.
