| posted: 4/15/2008 at 8:10:57 PM ET Does anyone have this book? What do you think?
I got my copy yesterday and personally (don't hit me!) I was a bit disappointed. I think maybe I got my hopes up too high because I was really impressed with "Kramer's Song" and was looking forward to the book being as well written, but in my opinion it wasn't that well done. I thought the story was too short and not well-enough developed, and it didn't have much of a conflict/climax thing goin' on. I found I didn't really care all that much about any of the characters in the book because the story didn't develop them or explain well enough who they were and why they were doing what they did.
I did like the concept of the story though, and the illustrations, I just wish it had been fleshed out more and it could have been a really fun and exciting story. Oh well, I guess even Bernadette can't be perfect at everything.

It might be unfair to judge the book for something it was never meant to be. Just a thought!

(I study them because I'm an artist interested in possibly illustrating kid's books someday, and many of them are quite entertaining and fun to read.) The writing in Broadway Barks didn't have the usual kiddie book excitement and drama. It was a nice concept, and parts of the book worked for me, but it just wasn't developed enough or as interesting as it could have been, in my opinion. And she did so well with the song, I thought it would translate into the writing as well, but it didn't.

| posted: 4/15/2008 at 11:56:18 PM ET I really enjoyed Bernadette's book. I think it is very sweet and cute. I thought the plot line worked for the age level of the book. The only thing that struck me was that for people who don't know what Broadway Barks (especially kids) it was a bit confusing.

I've been trying to post a response to this particular review but to no avail. Ho hum, maybe I was "drivelling" too much.

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 5/2/2008 at 7:48:26 AM ET After a long wait I've actually received "Broadway Barks" --- it's so sweet! I haven't listened to the CD yet but it's a lovely book and surely just right for the age group of it's intended readership.
I think BP has succeeded in all that she set out to do, and should be praised for taking even more time out of her busy life to produce this little treasure and raise money for - and perhaps even more importantly, awareness of - homeless and discarded animals.
OK, "The Lady and The Tramp" it is not ... but then it doesn't pretend to be. I'm sure every wee lad and lass who has this book read to them at bedtime will go to sleep with a warm little glow in their hearts and a wider awareness of why animal adoption from shelters is so crucially important. And if they don't go to sleep then I'm sure the gorgeous lullabye on the CD will do the trick.
And if that still doesn't work, then just turn out the light, close the door and let the ungrateful little brat cry itself to sleep ... and then you can keep the book and CD all to yourself!
