Who sponsored this event? New Line Cinema? And does Bernadette get paid for greeting people at the door? Does she get paid double since Glen Close apparently bailed? Liz Smith is not very forthcoming with the info.

From: NYC | posted: 12/16/2007 at 10:53:04 PM ET At Cyrano this afternoon, I overheard the goofiest conversation about Bernadette. These people were looking at the list of shows at the back of the Playbill.
Young woman: Let's see Sunday in the Park with George.
Middle aged woman: Oh I saw Bernadette Peters and Kevin Kline in that 20 or 30 years ago.
Second Young Woman: I went to a party that Bernadette gave for John Travolta. We were clearly outsiders.
30 something year old man, theatre trivia not-so-know-it all: I think it was Mandy Patinkin, not Kevin Kline, but I'm going to read his bio right now.
Middle aged woman: Oh, maybe it was Mandy Patinkin. I can't remember. It was so long ago. Oh, Jerry Springer the Opera is coming to Carnegie Hall. Let's all go. It's like Spring Awakening meets real live tv! It's so hysterical. Oh, Bernadette used to date Steve Martin.
Second Young Woman: Yeah, it was Steve Martin. They were in a really bad movie musical but I don't know what it was called.
30 something year old man, theatre trivia not-so-know-it all: It wasn't Kevin Kline. But Daniel Sunjata who is in this play won a Tony for Take Me Out. And he's on 3rd Watch.
Hmmmm, how much of this conversation was just wrong?

| posted: 12/17/2007 at 12:09:02 PM ET At least someone at the table didn't insist that Madeline Kahn and Bernadette are the same person. I've had that conversation and, trust me, it isn't pretty!
(No offense to fans of Ms. Kahn, in fact I adore her too...)

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 12/17/2007 at 12:14:55 PM ET I love Madeline too and have had the same conversation with people mistaking her for Bernadette, or vice versa. Don't know why as they don't even look alike and their voices are so different --- must be the Mel Brooks thingy.
