From Internet Network: 198.236.58.x | posted: 4/9/2007 at 5:19:03 PM ET I don't know if this has been asked before, but is Bernadette working on a new CD? because in most of her recent interviews they always mention that she might work on a new CD, and in 2005 she said she was about to start work on two CDs, one that would be a Christmas album and one that would include the song Fever.

"Particular mention must be made of Bernadette Peters, who turns up briefly in a sort of sparkly Glinda the Good costume. She's the reluctant muse sent to help Alice with her writing. The muse is dressed like Oz, sounds like Queens and behaves like a bored student adviser." Alice Film Review, The New York Times, December 25, 1990

"No way!" I said. So I bet her $100 she couldn't.
"I know where you got those shoes. On your feet!"
Haven't trusted her since.

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 4/12/2007 at 10:07:06 AM ET A few weeks back I had lunch with a UK based Record Company boss and the subject of Bernadette and her recording catalogue came up. I was bemoaning the fact that she was rather "under-recorded" but he took the more pragmatic view that her selling potential is "limited" and that record companies need to take heed of such things. He actually said that Angel had "dropped her". I do hope he got that wrong.
A new CD would be so wonderful. Does anyone remember the beautiful Ella Fitzgerald "Songbook" series of recordings? Each album dedicated entirely to the work of some of the greatest composers of 20th Century popular music ... George & Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, Rogers & Hart, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Duke Ellington ... I would love to hear Bernadette lend her wonderful talents to a long-term project like that.
as Bernadette says....just keep moving on.....

| posted: 4/12/2007 at 1:57:44 PM ET Hard to believe that Angel Records, the classical boutique label for Capitol, would drop anybody, let alone Bernadette. I can imagine that they might have short term or one-off contracts, but for Angel to "drop" a name artist seems sort of odd. It's a label supposedly dedicated to serving small, elite audiences. Even if, so what? In this era, someone like Bernadette can start her own label and put her own record out if she wants.
Scottie, I inherited from my Pop the complete Verve label Ella Songbook series that he actually bought soon after it was originally released - it has the book and everything. It is a record collector's geek/nerd dream. One of my all time favorites. I too have imagined what a Bernadette equivalent might be like. It would be a hugely ambitious project, but, wow, what a huge splash it could be.

Peters next will turn her attention to a Jazz CD. She is looking for the right mix of "classic songs that have great lyrics without a lot of instrumentation around them."
So hopefully we will have a new CD soon!
