I had a chance to browse through this book "Alchemy of Theatre: Essays on Theatre and the Art of Collaboration, edited by Robert Viagas, and it looks like a good read. It also has a couple of very complimentary mentions of BP by people who have worked with her. This is not accurately quoted at all, but Cynthia Onrubia, who was in Song and Dance and The Goodbye Girl, talks about how generous a performer she is, watching her work with Martin Short, and how emotional the S&D cast would get backstage as they listened to Peters sing those songs every night. Peter Lawrence, (TGG, AGYG, Gypsy)says he learned from Peters how great stars can remove problems by example. He said she's gone on with nausea, vocal infections, sprained limbs and personal tragedy and because of that her shows have had the best attendance by the other cast and crew of any of the shows he's worked on.

It's also interesting to see who isn't listed in the index of the book. Of course maybe the people who contributed just haven't worked with certain of the rumored difficult names, but the contributors are also still working professionals and it's such a small community afterall.

Thanks, PTM. I'll have to find that book.

I sometimes think Bernadette has inspired more loyalty from her co-stars/colleagues than anyone who's ever worked in theatre. You never hear anything but the highest words of praise and gratitude.
