Slightly Off Topic, sorry, but I have often wondered how/if Bernadette's Overture has changed since she has done Annie Get Your Gun and Gypsy?

Well we musn't forget the glorious, and yet unrecorded, overture she had during her Rogers and Hammerstein tour that included (if I remember correctly) Grand Night for Singing, Something Wonderful, and Nothin Like a Dame (which was also her curtain call music) with a few others I've forgotten.

Jean, thank you. Don't know why exactly ... but I am always reminded of L. Bernstein's music when I hear those first few bars of the Bernadette overture ... maybe it is because it reminds me of the rhythmn of "Something's Coming" from West Side Story? .... or, if it is Bernstein, maybe it is a reference to On The Town?

Just before "Miss Bernadette Peters" I can definitely hear "everytime it rains, it rains...." from Pennies From Heaven.

If you have the video or DVD of the London concert in 1998 you won't hear an overture at all - but it was there, they just cut it out of the video.

I love her overture - it just sings out "New York" to me!

as Bernadette says....just keep moving on.....

I think Marvin Laird arranged her overture - I looked through my concert programs and don't see it but maybe she said it at one of the concerts. It's sort of a best of Broadway overture and I love it.

I'm listening to the overture from the Omaha concert right now...it sounds like Jean got it right.
