From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 7/3/2006 at 7:29:17 PM ET I always thought that Bernadette's performance at the Sir Cameron Mackintosh tribute "Hey! Mr Producer" in 1998 was her first appearance on the London stage. But while I was at the BFI (the British Film Institute) last week doing some research work I thought I would look up what they have on Bernadette and I found a reference to a TV show that was recorded at the Lyric Theatre in London in 1985 which featured Bernadette.
"BOB HOPE'S HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOMECOMING-A ROYAL LONDON GALA"
"Variety show at London's Lyric Theatre in the presence of the Duke of Edinburgh, in honour of Bob Hope's 82nd birthday. Those appearing include Mike Yarwood, Duran Duran, Rowan Atkinson, Ray Alan, Michael Caine, Chevvy Chase, Phyllis Diller, Marvin Hagler, Charlton Heston, Julio Iglesias, Ben Kingsley, Spike Milligan, The Muppets, Bernadette Peters and Debbie Reynolds."
To be honest, I was totally unaware that Bob Hope was English and was born in London ... but the much bigger surprise was to find that Bernadette had (apparently) appeared on the London stage way back in the 1980's.

Scottie, you should put that in the timeline.

Fav. BP Song: Being Alive Fav. BP Show: Sunday In The Park With George
| posted: 7/4/2006 at 9:04:35 AM ET About a year ago someone was auctioning a contract on Ebay that Bernadette had signed to appear on a 1980 Bob Hope TV special. It's funny, the Ebay ad was listed as an authentic "Bernadette Peters Autograph!" but it was in fact a pretty detailed contract page. Unless I am mistaken, the contract stated that BP would be paid something like $75,000 for her appearance on the show. Whew!

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 7/4/2006 at 12:24:35 PM ET Thanks, Karen, I've added the event to the Timeline as suggested.
By the way, the only other event I've ever entered there was the Royal Festival Hall concert in 1998 and I wanted to include a scan of the concert flyer that preceeded the event but had difficulty sending it to the web site. In the end I sent it to Kevin and he very kindly linked it to the London entry so it's there now if anyone wants to see it.
as Bernadette says....just keep moving on.....

Ainsley
Ainsley's show was on our TV for maybe a year. He's pretty charming, too.
