| posted: 5/30/2006 at 2:33:06 PM ET Does Bernadette speak Italian?
OK I got the translation:
The actress of musical comedy, TV and film has signed on to a film that will be made in Italy. It is the course of Patrizia Pellegrino who wants to make the film for the big screen. It has moved for the most beautiful locations in Italy and from their wine and food products to make this stroy around them. She has explained to the magizine "La Stampa" in which she talks about the birth of her first projcet Ants and her protagonist Maria Grazia Cucinotta. It will be directed by Ilaria Borrelli. The film which is awaiting the arrival of the set is about two sisters who are very different from each other. One is a failed artist and the other is an angry wine expert who is unlucky. The come back together because of an inheritence. The film is set in the family villa of the husband of one of the sister in Umbria Italy. The goal is to make the film as soon as possible so that it can be presented at the Rome Film Festival in October with the help of the critic Walter Veltroni.
Sorry if parts of it are confusing that's the best I could translate.

| posted: 5/30/2006 at 2:59:05 PM ET I wouldn't doubt if she does speak Italian. Her mother immigrated to the U.S. when she was an adult and with all of her Italian relatives (enough to live in that big red dress at Radio City), there must have been a certain amount of Italian being spoken. Plus Bernadette seems to have traveled to Italy a lot so she's probably picked up or improved her Italian. Thanks for the translation. That's the one that makes the most sense so far. But I need to know if it will be shown in the U.S. I need to know now!!!!!

From: northern VA | posted: 5/30/2006 at 8:11:29 PM ET So which one is Bernadette-the failed artist or the angry and unlucky wine expert? Come on-you have a 50/50 shot!
And where does Mr. F. Murray Abraham fit into all this (I'm guessing the husband of one of the sisters?)? He looks pretty happy with the women in this film.
(I kid-he's been married for many decades.)

From: northern VA | posted: 5/30/2006 at 8:17:22 PM ET It's not a role with which she is unfamiliar, for some reason.
I was thinking he is playing her husband, based on the pictures.
Unless, a tryst is involved!
I shouldn't do this. I do this with musicals that I haven't seen but to which I have the recording. I imagine the staging and sometimes can't help but wish they would have done it my way when I see the show. Very presumptuous of me, and it ruins the show for me. After all, who am I?
(The answer is not 24601.)

I agree. In one photo it looks like they are about to kiss.
I would actually guess that she is the wine expert. The artist profession (at least in movies) usually goes for the younger sibling.
Also, if she is the one who is married, it would make sense that a husband and wife would own a wine business together or something.
I too want to know if this will be shown in the US.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 6/2/2006 at 12:24:00 AM ET I happened to notice that the director, Ilana Borelli, has made one previous film, Mariti in Affitto aka Our Italian Husband aka Rent-a-Husband. It was an Italian/US co-production starring Brooke Shields, Maria Grazia Cucinotta (who's also in the new film), and, in a small part, Chevy Chase. I found an article about the making of the earlier film which gives a bit of an idea about how these international projects are put together.
MovieMaker Magazine
I also saw that in the film's entry on imdb they give as "trivia" that Chevy Chase claims he was never paid for his work in the film. I hope that's not a bad sign!

Registered: 6/26/2003 | posted: 7/24/2006 at 11:59:55 PM ET Here's a little more information on the film from an interview with Patrizia Pellegrino. If the online translators worked, it seems the title might be changed and Pellegrino described the film as more of a comedic ensemble piece with six characters. She plays the sister who is the singer and Galatea Ranzi (?) plays the other. Abraham is their father and Peters is an American who wants to buy their business (something with wine and race horses??) and get rid of them all. The other two characters are the sisters' husbands. She said it's meant for the big screen but could just play on TV. Another article mentioned the locations as being in Todi in Umbria and the race courses of S. Siro.
