Singer and actress Bernadette Peters has won a legion of fans with her work in
theater, in movies and on TV. The New York-born Peters won a 1999 Tony for Best
Actress for "Annie Get Your Gun" and is starring in her first independent film,
"Let It Snow," which opened yesterday.
Q: What did you like about working on a nonstudio project?
A: It was put together with such love. You could feel it as you were doing it.
We filmed it in [writer/director/producers] Kipp and Adam Marcus' mother's
house in Westport, Conn. They made me very comfortable. They were very sweet.
Q: How do you maintain balance with such a busy schedule?
A: I'm lucky I have a terrace. I can go outside and look up. I also like to
meditate — that's very important.
Q: What career accomplishment are you proudest of?
A: Being a part of something like "Sunday in the Park with George," which won a
Pulitzer Prize, and being in "Pennies From Heaven" [with Steve Martin]. I'm
proud of being a part of those things.
Q: When did you discover your singing voice?
A: I've been singing since I was a little girl, but when I started taking
lessons as a teenager, it began to develop. It constantly kept growing and
evolving.
Q: What talent would you like to have other than your own?
A: I'd like to be able to organize and to cook, and I'd like to have a huge
vocabulary
