Love to spread the rumor--off to NY now, type you later.

| posted: 7/13/2005 at 4:49:33 PM ET I'm not sure it makes much difference to her. She doesn't come across as doing anything wrong in the article. Clearly the theater planned a season they are not yet capable of handling. As Karen said you have to built up to such a lofty line up. I guess they thought the publicity was enough but it isn't. I think Mr. Georges age and lack of experience is showing. You don't plan that many big names unless you already have the money in the bank. Bernadette isn't going to work for free.

| posted: 7/13/2005 at 5:44:47 PM ET Nor can the orchestra, bus drivers, technicians, piano tuners and ushers be expected to work for free either!
We had a local theater director who did a similar thing years ago - put a huge amount of hope into a very impressive season line up, but practically nothing in terms of logistics and managment. This resulted in nothing ever seeing fruition, very frustrating.

There could be a whole book written eventually on the behind-the-scenes machinations at that theater this season. Possibly I'm the last one to read it, but if you haven't, take a look.
I probably shouldn't say this, but the term that keeps popping into my mind is "con man." Wouldn't it be funny if our anonymous poster was Tony Georges?

Mama Rose (not as good as Bernadette, of course!) I wonder if Daisy Eagen will stick it out to play Louise. Speaking of Maria Friedman, has anyone on hear listened to the London recording of The Woman in White? I liked it a lot more than some other ALW works.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 7/16/2005 at 10:35:35 AM ET The most striking quote, from the latest news story posted, is Tony Georges's statement about Bernadette's cancellation, "This is news to me at this time. I am disturbed to hear that she would make that choice, but Ms. Peters is very independent and no doubt has reason."
At first it seemed really funny, but when I realized how truly bizarre and delusional it was...it didn't seem so funny anymore.
How on earth did this kid manage to talk his way into being put in charge of all that money (reportedly $2 million)? Such an unholy mess.

Now I think he may be (1) in complete denial (2) living in a very unhealthy fantasy world.
Either way, I feel sorry for the people of Odessa-Midland--who knows if they will ever see quality theater.
