Now let the wishes and guessing begin: what's next??

I know nothing about this tv business, so I can't answer your question. However, someone at the NY Times is writing an hour-by-hour diary (maybe it's a blog) about the upfront presentations, so perhaps she will write something later (the actual ABC presentation takes place around 4pm, I think).

I like that casting.

I also wish they would just run the pilot once so we could all see it.

And I'm not sure why Patti Lupone is. It's a very strange little adaption of Sweeney Todd and is not, IMO, best suited to big name actors.

From: London | posted: 5/17/2005 at 5:01:06 PM ET Heres a post i found on the IMDB message bored under sweeney todd so it seems others are routing for Bernadette
When the Phantom movie came out the speculation was huge. John Travolta as Phantom, Antonio Banderas, Zeta Jones or Winslet as Christine then it all went out the window as people insisted on people that can sing the roles well. Now Sam Mendes has directed Sondheim loads of times in the UK and the original incarnation of 'Bounce' then called 'Wise Guys' in the states. I've been thinking listening to the recordings and have come up with this list trying to ignore all popular choices:
Sweeney Todd: Victor Garber (Anthony in Original production. High baritone but can do it. Listen to him on Original recording of Assassins.)
Mrs Lovett: Miranda Richardson if she can sing if not Bernadette Peters.
Anthony: Davis Gaines (Perfect in the concerts.)
Judge Turpin: Christopher Lee (Trained opera singer he is.)
Beadle: Richard O'Brien (Nuff said.)
Pirelli: Kelsey Grammer or Nathan Lane.
Tobias: ???? (Really not sure)Maybe Neil Patrick Harris again or Haley Joel Osment if he can sing?
Beggar Woman: Patti Lupone (Ha!)
they say bernadette's wonderful..........and she is

Well, she hasn't been on Broadway since 1987 and she wants to be in a Sondheim production (even though she's done the role before, this is a Broadway run).
I'm not a mind reader, of course. But I can understand why she would want to do this show.

The operative words for me when I think of what I'd like to see Bernadette do next--after a movie or fabulous guest-starring-Emmy-nominated TV role--are new and original.
I've said this before, but: I'd like to see her in a non-musical, at perhaps the Manhattan Theater Club, where she could really dig into some complex character in a play written-or at least tailored for her.

OK. For some reason I thought that was Off Broadway. Don't know why.
So-no Broadway musical since 1987-88. Noises Off was 2001-02 season (just checked).

I watched the final episode of Everybody Loves Raymond and was thinking how nice it would have been if Adopted could have had this kind of success. Incidentally, I think the fella who was warming up the audience for that final episode was the same guy at the Adopted taping.
Is the casting of Ms. LuPone definite for that Sweeney? That production sounds very bizarre. Maybe the next production will require Mrs. Lovett to bake real meat pies on stage.
