WOW AND WOW AND WOW! GUESS WHAT!?! I FINALLY GOT MY PICTURE TAKEN W/ BERNADETTE! YAY! I WILL POST IT THIS WEEK. AND CONFIRMED W/ PATTY AND TALL GREY HAIR HANDSOME GUY (ROAD MGR?) - BERNADETTE WILL BE IN MIDLAND/ODESSA THIS FALL. YES! I told her that I schlepped my Gypsy poster all the way to Boston and now to Houston and she couldn't believe it - and I told her she was too busy in Boston. I introduced her to my MOm and said she lives in Texas and she oh, this is why you came to Houston and I said yeah right. Ha ha. She signed Mom's program too. She is so incredibly nice. I'm gushing I know. This was the first time my mom and our friends saw her live. To quote my friend w/ me tonight, "Boy she really looks good for 47" and when I told him that she's 57, he said "boy she really, really looks good for 57 and boy, she's a belter" and "she really moves around good"! My other friend said she was impressed that Bernadette sounded so good on the so low notes and then could sing so beautifully high. She was indeed in excellent voice tonight.

The Houston Symphony played for about 45 minutes - they opened w/ the overture to Gypsy. Then they played some other unneccesary numbers merely to torture me with mounting anticipation - I was so worried that she wouldn't sing her whole concert since I've had other bad experiences w/ seeing somebody perform w/ Pops and only sing a couple of songs. But promptly at 9:00ish she began "Let Me Entertain You"! Marvin was dressed in tails! Bernadette wore the same beaded silver sparlkely number she wore in Boston. Why not? She looks fab in it. The audience was pretty good. Jones Hall is much larger than Symphony Hall in Boston so accoustics were different - she got a standing O after the end and then after each encore. The only song she didn't sing was "Move On". Also, they hung 2 huge video screens so we got to see very close-ups of her face - just beautiful - and fun seeing 2 extra giant Bernadettes on the stage. Before she sang "So Little to Be Sure Of" she said I love, love, love this song. Me too - I thought it was neat that she loves this sentimental song.

Irony of the evening - across from Jones Hall Steve Martin's "The Underpants" is playing at the Alley Theatre and his name is huge on the marquis while Bernadette's name and picture are on the marquis of Jones Hall across the street.

The only thing I would have changed this evening - having my other precious Fanadettes with me to cheer and poke me in the arm and then a 2 hour post-concert Bernadette discussion over dinner!

Sister Rose-she said something right after that,but I didn't catch it. I was hoping you did?

Also-I'm sorry I missed you today. It's not easy walking around the orchestra area,and I didn't want to wander around shouting either a)your real name or b)worse,Sister Rose. Some people might have thought I was looking for a nun.

Darn! But so cool that you had a great stage door meeting. My review is posted in the previous Houston concert post.

Thanks so much--I really like reading these impressions of her concerts. So, Sister, although you saw her concert last week, you still enjoyed the Houston as much? I think you mentioned that you --or your mother--were going to the Odessa concert? I noticed a tall grey-haired and bearded man in someone's photos from Boston, and was wondering if he might be in her entourage--he looks like a {handsome} body-guard, actually.

========
And, Jenn, if it were me I would already have ticket in hand for tonight's concert.
Jenn-had you seen her live before?
==============
Crick--thanks to you as well, I especially am interested in hearing what she sings--it looks like she has the long program and short.

Oh Sister Rose! I'm so glad you got to meet her again and that you finally got your picture and your poster signed! :-) I wish we could have been there with you! I'm glad you enjoyed it just as much as the Boston concert.

OH yes I enjoyed the concert last night as much as I did in Boston - basically same program but different feeling anticipating what was coming next, seeing if her schtick was the same, listening for new schtick, seeing her on the giant screens, checking to see if my Mom and friends were grinning (yes they were)...it was great.

LOL Jenn - Not wearing my habit last night - quoting "Maria" I wouldn't make a very good nun! LOL.

We just had breakfast listening to Sondheim Etc and discussed Bernadette and other things Broadway - they all enjoyed it enough to keep wanting to talk about it

Jean - I think guy you're thinking of in that picture must be the same guy - very handsome, friendly and very tall.

I wonder why she sang this song at one of the last concerts she did and not at this concert and others since she started doing concerts again back in January.

I think when the orchestra is featured in the first part, she's not given as much time so she has to cute some numbers. In Palm Springs she did 90 min. and added My Romance and The Way You Look Tonight. I would have preferred the What's the Use of Wonderin / This Nearly Was Mine combo since the other two are already on the concert video, but that's just me wanting to hear the newer stuff.
